Job Description

The FBI is actively looking for well-qualified Software Engineers. Working for the FBI, a Software Engineer is a person concerned with all facets of the software development process, including analyzing system requirements, evaluating viable options, designing and developing software solutions, as well as performing software testing and quality assurance. Some qualified candidates will also be able to build interactive applications for a variety of mobile devices. The FBI is looking for people who are talented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, organized, and highly energetic software engineers to join our team to build new applications, integrate and upgrade existing applications, and help bridge the gap between legacy development and future technology platforms. You will work in a collaborative and inclusive work environment with users and product managers developing unique solutions, possibly developing interactive applications for a variety of mobile devices allowing for data collection, analysis, and visualization. As a Software Engineer, you could be a primary contributor in analyzing system requirements, presenting viable options, architectural planning and design, software coding and debugging, as well as automated testing and system documentation. You will operate in a team environment and collaborate internally and externally with various business partners and technical personnel in order to achieve mission goals. You may serve as a subject matter expert on DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, continuous testing, and continuous monitoring, while ensuring system uptime and performance.

To be a successful Software Engineer for the FBI, you will need excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and stakeholders, and the ability to understand and explain business logic and technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. You should have the ability to work on multiple projects / tasks in parallel, operate in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and possess the necessary organizational skills required to effectively balance and prioritize work, as well as the ability to comprehend and analyze complex technical problems, and quickly identify and implement solutions to address those problems. We also are looking for individuals who are familiar with system administration of cloud infrastructure, and have a demonstrated ability to brief Cloud concepts to technical and non-technical audiences and advocate for customers.

Technically, you should also understand software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, design patterns), including strong programming and analytical skills and demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills necessary in determining the root cause of a software defect or technical issue. We are also interested in individuals who have an excellent understanding of the Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and Object Oriented Analysis (OOA) concepts and ability to develop software using object-oriented programming languages (Java, C++, Python). Experience with front end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, Type Script, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON), middle tier technologies (REST/SOAP-based Web Services), and relational database design, operation, and query optimization and alternative database technologies such as NoSQL is also very important.

Do you have what we're looking for? Submit your resume to for consideration.
