MAXIMUS is looking for a Sr. J2EE and Open Source technical architect with experience architecting, developing and implementing Enterprise applications. The role will include solution engineering, resource management, and implementation support. The individual must have over 15 years of experience implementing enterprise solutions with working knowledge across technology platforms. The candidate must have over 5 years open source technologies based development experience. Ideal candidate will have a wide range of experience architecting solutions on Java and a variety of open source technology platforms across the 4-tier architecture. As a member of the Strategic Solutions group, the candidate must have proven experience to operate independently and demonstrate experience leading/guiding a team to architect, develop and implement business applications.


  • Engage with internal teams to understand and architect technical solutions, facilitate solutions design and manage implementations
  • Review, guide and support RFIs, RFPs and RFQs, response development including writing of whitepapers and concept development
  • Manage a small team of sr. software development engineers to architect, develop and implement enterprise applications using J2EE and open source technologies
  • Provide technical solution support during proposal process, to include technology stack, solution architecture, and implementation methodology
  • Design and develop specific solutions leveraging technologies and design practices that enable a scalable, extensible and flexible solution.
  • Develop and provide presentations and demonstrations of technology solutions to both internal and external stakeholders as needed
  • Extend and partner with internal/external resources to identify and contribute to continuous improvements of open source projects across multiple open source technologies/projects

The Ideal Candidate will Possess the Following Additional Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related engineering field required
  • Minimum of 15 years developing and architecting software solutions using Java, J2EE and other object oriented technology platforms required
  • 10 years of hands-on experience in java, J2EE components such as JMS, JTS, persistence,  Java script required
  • Eight (8) years of hands-on experience designing and developing SOAP webservices and Restful API required
  • Eight (8) years of hands-on experience with J2EE application servers such as IBM WebSphere, Oracle WebLogic, or Apache Tomcat required
  • Five (5) years of experience in web 2.0 technologies such as Ajax, Dojo and  AngularJS required
  • Five (5) years of experience XML parsing, data file processing required
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in open source technologies that include Spring, Camel, Node.JS, Commons, Spring-Boot, Kafka, SOLR, Cassandra required
  • High proficiency in SQL on MySQL, Oracle DB and MSSQL Server,  and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, and Cassandra
  • Demonstrated skills with analytical problem solving abilities
  • Proven ability to collaborate with other team members to solve problems and actively incorporate input from various sources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills to senior management both internal and external including SMEs
