The Raster Product Innovation Delivery (RaPID) team at Maxar is looking for a System Architect to lead a cross-functional team of system engineers and product owners who will implement best practices as a customer advocate, and change agent to collaboratively build foundational ground system capabilities. This team and position is based in Westminster, CO.

Responsibilities:
  • One of the leaders of the Maxar Agile Software Development Life Cycle process used to facilitate system baseline changes; takes ownership of design planning, and as-built documentation accounting for stakeholder requirements and long term supportability and scaling needs.
  • Oversees the management of component/service-level requirements and traceability to design documentation, test cases, and operational training materials.
  • Works directly with feature owners, other system engineers, program managers, product owners, developers, testers, and customers to define features and generate optimal system designs.
  • Creates system-level functional flows using a system engineering model-based framework (such as Enterprise Architect) with an ability to frame all requirements inside those flows.
  • Creates draft flows and leads design sessions with component SMEs to create preliminary designs.
  • Leads development and maintenance of as-built models and design documents for software components to ensure all documentation is current.
  • Continually learns about our evolving complex systems with particular focus on spacecraft to ground interfaces, imagery product production, product layout, QC, and delivery.
  • Makes contributions to the enterprise vision, engineering processes, and overall architecture roadmap.
  • Manages client expectations to ensure realistic deliverables and then exceeds those expectations.
  • Coordinates team responses to large scale dynamic requests.
  • Manages and mentors other SEs and builds rapport with other collaborators such as spacecraft engineers and component software developers, system integrators, and testers.
  • Creates growth plan for staff focused on technical skill development, ability to influence, and team member desires.
  • Leads and participates in innovation exercises such as Hack-A-Thons, to determine optimal paths toward implementation of complex feature designs


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen and be willing and able to obtain a Secret security clearance or higher
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical discipline (Computer Science is ideal). 4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 8 years of relevant experience, preferably in a software systems engineering capacity. (A master's degree may count as 2 years of experience.)
  • Working knowledge of Agile development principles and best practices
  • A complete understanding of the system engineering domain and willing to mentor subordinate SE's, and interns.
  • Has a general knowledge of imaging spacecraft subsystems.
  • Experienced with Model-Based System Engineering practices, SysML, modeling system state transitions, data flows, etc., and working with Enterprise Architect or similar framework


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Has extensive systems engineering and operations experience
  • Strong listening, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong sense of self-motivation is essential - must be willing to be actively involved in the details of the system design and operability
  • Successful at multi-tasking and able to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
  • Able to identify and resolve project issues independently
  • Has strong teamwork and collaborative skills
  • Is knowledgeable of multiple development methodologies (Waterfall, Spiral, Scrum/Agile)
  • Experience managing teams of at least 5-7
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Amazon Web Services Architect.


The compensation range for this position is $ 106,500.00 - $177,500.00 USD annually, dependent on skills and experience. This position is also eligible for a bonus plan.
