Position Summary: \n


Reporting to the Platform Engineering Manager the System Engineer is a full-time position located in San Diego, California. The System Engineer is responsible for the company's internal and customer-facing infrastructure and works closely with Software Development and Information Technology to provision, configure, maintain and monitor systems within said infrastructure. The System Engineer is responsible for leading establishing and maintaining application infrastructure within a large-scale .NET/Windows Server 2008/2012, SQL Server 2008/2012, RHEL/Unix environment using tools such as PowerShell, VMware 5.5 and above, Advanced skills in SPLUNK, SCCM, and Puppet. The System Engineer is responsible for the design, architecture, implementation, and Tier III support of systems solutions to meet the growing needs of the business. The System Engineer is also responsible for assisting in making recommendations for the selection of platform configurations, hardware, operating systems, software, and assisting in the planning, provisioning, installation, documentation, and administration of all server operating systems and storage subsystems. \n

Essential Job Duties: \n

    \n
  • Leads, consults, and oversees large, complex, or multiple architectural engagements and reviews. Viewed as an expert who understands the business, the company-wide "big picture," and technology. Works on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge and leads architecture reviews. Participates in the Enterprise Architecture Review and with the business to drive major decisions \n
  • Leads the architectural domain-wide technical and business discussions relative to future enterprise direction across entire large and complex systems and capabilities. Aligns architecture strategy with company goals and requirements \n
  • Develops and communicates organization-wide policies, standards, guidelines and procedures. Promotes the Enterprise Architecture process, outcomes and results to the organization and senior leadership \n
  • Reviews, analyzes, and develops architectural requirements at the enterprise level. Aligns architectural requirements with IT and business strategy. Understands business and IT priorities and develops architectural plans to achieve those priorities \n
  • Proactively identifies system, application, and infrastructure reuse goals, opportunities, and standards \n
  • Coordinates architecture implementation and modification activities for enterprise-wide systems or infrastructure implementations. Assists in post-implementation and continuous-improvement efforts to enhance performance and improve future outcomes. Ensures the conceptual completeness of the technical solution. Works closely with project management to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered \n
  • Leads the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry and market trends to assist in project development and/or operational support activities. Considers potential impact to domain/portfolio architecture. Provides recommendations based on business relevance, appropriate timing, and proposed deployment schedules \n
  • Work with F5 engineer in managing F5vips, Irules Nodes and pools in F5 \n
  • Work on incoming tickets in ServiceNow \n
  • Service and support Azure-based Cloud services and infrastructure \n
  • Operate and maintain high availability systems in remote datacenters \n
  • Work closely with IT and development teams on system provisioning and configuration \n
  • Work closely with IT development teams to ensure site reliability and performance \n
  • Work closely with development teams to deliver ongoing releases and updates \n
  • Work across functional (development/testing, deployment, systems/infrastructure) and project teams to ensure continuous operation of build and test systems \n
  • Drive visibility and continuous improvement of delivery pipeline \n
  • Maintain distinct development, QA, staging, production and PLT environments \n
  • Works with Application developers, Architects to understand application middleware requirements and create middleware configurations to meet these needs \n
  • Experience with middleware engineering focused on designing and operating scalable and highly available solutions \n
  • Performs deployments of custom and Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) code/software \n
  • Maintain monitoring and reporting infrastructure / platform \n
  • Ensure release and update process remains agile and efficient \n
  • Document existing and future systems and procedures \n
  • Create and maintain physical and logical documentation \n
  • Create and present project handoff technical documentation \n
  • Create and maintain Windows and Linux based OS as a baseline used in automated server provisioning \n
  • Serves as subject matter expert, escalation and mentor for System Engineer I staff \n
  • Act as a technical advisor to other personnel in the Software Development and Information Technology departments \n
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation and may work nights and weekends \n
  • Act as a point of escalation for on-call outages and critical business initiatives \n

Minimum Requirements: \n
    \n
  • Minimum of 8 years in an IS or IT role, working in a medium to large web development and hosting environment \n
  • Advanced in SPLUNK 2012/2016 experience and Unix integrations \n
  • Unix troubleshooting and general administrative tasks - RHEL 5.x-7.x \n
  • Apache, SFTP, YUM repositories, MySQL, web-based applications, website CMS, Domain integrations (Winbind, SSSD) \n
  • Standard system maintenance (logs/logrotate, cron jobs, disk expansion/maintenance, auditing, user maintenance) \n
  • Familiarity with cross-platform functionality (Windows/Unix, Physical/Virtual) \n
  • PowerShell & BASH scripting \n
  • Strong familiarity with VMware/Virtualization \n
  • Experience with Active Directory and working across multiple domains and forests (Domain objects, DNS, domain trusts) \n
  • Experience in multi-tier application design, implementation, advance skills in trouble shooting and support (LAMP stacks and variants) \n
  • Experience in developing and implementing Unix automated processes/procedures for process improvement \n
  • General networking experience (VLANs, firewalls, DHCP) \n
  • General storage experience (CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, VMDKs, LUNs) \n
  • Strong ability to work independently or as part of a team \n
  • Prefer puppet/Automation Environment development, implementation, and support \n
  • Splunk experience (Application and System support) \n
  • F5/Big IQ LTM experience \n
  • Experience in refreshing/rebuilding LAMP web stacks \n
  • Strong familiarity Microsoft Operating Systems \n
  • Experience with production change control and release processes \n
  • Experience with backup software and hardware a plus \n
  • Excellent time and priority management abilities \n
