Job Description

We are looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join us to architect and develop prototypes of innovative hardware enabled audio systems.

As our Systems Engineer, Audio Systems, you will work closely within the SF Technology and Innovation team to imagine, architect, and realize novel audio systems. In this role, you will develop and communicate architecture and system requirements, manage embedded widget realization, guide software/firmware directions, and develop qualification and acceptance criteria. You are likely to be exploring and specifying embedded processors, DSP, FPGAs, sensors, and other peripheral technologies. You will collaborate, codevelop and debug internally as well as manage and integrate outside resources to achieve your goals. Though your deliverables will mainly come in the form of hardware, you will naturally find yourself venturing into adjacent embedded software and DSP development activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design of systems architecture and the development of associated specifications
  • Collaboration with research teammates, product and project management, UX design, and users to define and realize hardware systems and solutions
  • Management of all hardware and embedded systems aspects of prototype execution including docs and code
  • Hands on development as needed
  • Evaluation of new system architectures and electronics technologies
  • Development and enforcement of systems design best practices

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ yrs exp developing both firmware and hardware components of embedded analog and digital audio systems, especially those that included real-time, DSP, and high-performance audio requirements
  • Track record managing external hardware development resources through all phases of realization
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field with a strong emphasis on software
  • Strong problem solving and analytic skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Collaborative team player across highly technical interdisciplinary and multicultural teams

Preferred qualifications:

  • Hands on experience building systems that have incorporated Bluetooth, Dante, MADI, or other audio transports
  • C++, Matlab, Python, or Java coding capability
  • Experience bringing audio product concepts from design through manufacturing
  • Conceptual knowledge of one or more of the following technologies: 3D audio spatialization, HRTFs, equalization, dynamic range compression, automatic gain control, noise suppression, acoustic echo cancellation, microphone array processing and voice activity detection
  • End user experience with VR/AR/MR systems
  • Ability and interest to build relationships with external design and manufacturing partners
