The Systems Engineer II will demonstrate a working knowledge on at least 10 of the following technical responsibilities and skill sets below.
The Systems Engineer II position builds on the knowledge requirements of the Systems Engineer I position by expanding that knowledge into the areas of installation and configuration of the technologies listed below. An Systems Engineer II engineer has more advanced troubleshooting skills and can solve problems not only in previously established environments but can also solve problems arising from the install and setup of new environments. In addition to this, the Systems Engineer II can correctly diagnose and troubleshoot issues in environments that encompass several different technologies.
This position will work as part of a team environment. The individual should be self-motivated and require minimal assistance. The position is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining both the corporate and customer infrastructure environments and is expected to work in a multi-client support environment including participating in the on-call rotation. The position will report to either a Project Manager or the Manager of Infrastructure Services. This position will also be responsible for other duties, tasks and projects as assigned
Must demonstrate a working knowledge and experience working with the following technologies:
Current Microsoft Windows OS and Server OS from Windows 2003 to current release and supporting technologies such as AD,DNS, DHCP, GPO, DFS, RDS, RDWeb, File and Print services.
Microsoft Exchange 2010/2013/2016 - Installation, configuration, mail routing and administration of mailbox and mail databases, mobile support, scripting a strong plus.
Office 365 - basic understanding of concepts and support. ADSynch, mobile support, configuration, setup and migrations.
Email security – Spam, Antivirus, phishing, white list, black list and SPF. Implementation of mail gateways.
VMWare – VM server; configurations, builds, clone, snapshot, volume expansions.
ESX – Knowledge, understanding and experience administering and configuring ESX.
Network components and concepts – Switches, routers, firewalls and WAP.
SAN/NAS – Knowledge, understanding, configuration and administration of SAN and NAS.
Certs – Generate CSRs and install certs for IIS, Exchange, etc..
External DNS – Concepts, understanding, configuration and administration of external DNS and hosting.
Backups – Veeam/CommVault; job status, restores, backups, backup types.
Desktop and Server management tools to include patching, monitoring applications and antivirus software.
SQL – Installation, configuration, and basic administration.
SharePoint – Concepts, installation, configuration and administration
ADFS and SSO – Concepts, installation, configuration, administration and application usage
3rd-Party application usage and troubleshooting
Familiarity with ticketing systems, incident management and resolution, and change management processes.
VOIP/Telephony – Concepts and basic understandings, configuration and troubleshooting of phones a strong plus
Citrix – Concepts and basic understanding a strong plus.
Unix/Linux –Concepts and basic understanding a strong plus.
Provide level II and III support for escalations from the Service Desk
Assists in the planning, design, documentation, and implementation of various systems to include servers, network equipment, storage, backup, desktop PC, and software applications.
Makes recommendations for new equipment and services to purchase and works with various vendors for procurement.
Assist in the organization and inventory of all hardware and software resources.
Creates and maintains technical documentation.
Provides emergency on-call support on a rotating schedule with other Team members.
Lead and direct vendors to assist in troubleshooting efforts.
3-5 years of Server administration experience on Microsoft Windows and VmWare
2-3 years of SAN/NAS storage experience
Demonstrated knowledge to perform root cause analysis, identify and isolate technical issues, and work in a collaborative effort with others as necessary to quickly and effectively resolve technical issues.
Ability to solve highly complex problems spanning multiple technologies and disciplines
Sound understanding of hardware fundamentals of servers, storage, networks and backups
Excellent communication skills
MCP, MCSA, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP.,VCP 5.0, A+, Network+, etc..
