Technical Product Manager - Software Solutions
Location: Gurnee, IL (with 40% travel)
Pay Rate: $90-$100k
Duration of Job: Direct hire

The Technical Product Manager is responsible for all technical aspects of their assigned products as detailed below. The role has cross functional responsibility and interacts with all departments on matters relating to their products. The role is primarily one of development and will focus on the development of the necessary technical skills within each department to enable them to provide the support needed by the business. This role will also liaise with various company personnel to ensure a strong, collaborative relationship exists with the group technical representatives.

Competencies:

  • Familiarity with factory automation solutions in production line environments (controls, automation, PLCs).
  • Experience with database development and administration.
  • Knowledge of MES / ERP / SCADA systems.
  • Experience developing and leading training classes.
  • Experience writing scripts (LUA, SQL, Python, VBscript, batch files, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows PCs and Servers (re-imaging, boot error troubleshooting, permission and user grants setup).
  • Knowledge of Software development with an understanding of programming languages (desirable).
  • Knowledge of Web and mobile application development (desirable).
  • Knowledge of Networked IT systems (desirable).
  • Knowledge of data exchange from remote data services / remote devices of varying protocols.
  • Working knowledge of control systems, application software, network topology and enterprise systems.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting ability.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manages product training structure
    • Ensure training materials are complete and up to date.
    • Ensure trainers are well versed and capable of delivering fundamentals.
    • Create training environment which delivers effective knowledge transfer.
    • Implement testing capabilities to support excellent level of helpdesk support on your product line(s).
    • Support training efforts to provide expert level instruction.
    • Support training plan development with department heads.
  2. Provide escalation management
    • Take responsibility for the speedy resolution of all product related technical issues.
    • Support the overall escalation process and provide insight and expert level diagnosis as needed.
    • Liaise with group Technical Support Groups to ensure strong working relationships and an adequate network of contacts exist to support local escalation efforts.
    • Manage and report on product status and current known issues.
  3. Develop innovative remote support options for customer base (self-support enhancement).
  4. Manage and distribute all technical documentation associated with assigned products.
  5. Provides technical product support to sales team including pre-sales support (as needed).
  6. Fully support trade show events.
  7. Supports Commercial training. Will work with Product Marketing Manager to create agendas and will deliver portions of the training.
  8. Partners with Product Marketing Manager to drive and manage Channel Readiness for product launches.
  9. Manages trial program.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in a software, IT, or related technical discipline, and/or
  • 5+ years of technical product ownership with at least 2 years' experience in a field facing role and strong software background.
  • Very strong verbal & written communication skills.
  • Willing to travel up to 40%.
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues and cross-functional teams, and third parties.
