Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, control, reporting and completion of one or more concurrent projects consistent with company strategy, principles, commitments and goals.

  • Follows SDLC best practices and corporate polices/procedures
  • Appropriately adjusts the software development/project management methodology to fit the nature of the project
  • Identifies the skills and technology resources needed to accomplish project objectives; provides staffing and software/infrastructure requirements to the Program manager for capacity planning purposes
  • Identifies, analyzes, prioritizes, mitigates and communicates project risks and dependencies
  • Creates a high level development and delivery schedule, working closely with internal and external business partners to incorporate dependencies and align on corporate expectations for delivery
  • Establishes a project engagement model with the internal audit department to support evidence of IS controls and adherence to SOX requirements
  • Plans and facilitates meetings for topics such as iteration planning, roadmap planning, feature requirements, steering committees, retrospectives, and process improvements
  • Facilitates user story writing, splitting of stories and clarification
  • Prepares and presents project status, highlighting risks/constraints requiring executive decisions
  • Documents project activities in compliance with audit requirements and software development best practices
  • Manages the detailed development and delivery schedule, working closely with internal and external business partners to incorporate dependencies and align on corporate expectations for delivery
  • Sets a project IS budget, maintaining financial tracking to identify variances and re-forecasted costs
  • Prepares requests for external staff funding to be presented to executive management
  • Oversight of day to day project activities of internal teams
  • Oversight of engagement with external staffing vendors to manage statements of work, monitor and reconcile invoicing, and track project IS financial budget and spend
  • Maintains the project or release plan, working with developers to track actuals against plan
  • Reviews the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets project and company standards
  • Helps teams resolve issues and remove roadblocks
  • Provides direction and support to the project team
  • Facilitates the project change control process
  • Develops and maintains deployment plan, coordinating actions across teams as needed
  • Works with business stakeholders to facilitate / gather the business metrics to measure and report on success of the expected business outcomes
  • Demonstrate commitment to Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and apply knowledge of compliance policies and procedures, standards and laws applicable to job responsibilities in the performance of work.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years managing Information Technology projects
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional product teams within budgetary and schedule constraints
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple project managers to assess impacts of new demands against both active and planned projects
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate technical terms in business language and communicate across levels of the organization
  • Experienced in managing relationships with third party providers and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Proven success in motivating teams towards a common goal
  • Proven success in facilitating collaboration between teams
  • Self-motivated to independently and consistently engage teams to provide pro-active communications involving team dynamics, project health, and insights on ideas for improvements in people, processes and projects
  • Understanding of and experience managing all phases of the software development life cycle (including both waterfall and agile methodologies)
  • Inquisitive in nature with a desire to gain a full understanding of business and technology operations as they relate to project outcomes
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management
  • Understanding of technical aspects of development and SDLC including code and environment management challenges
  • Agile methodology experience
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work with limited supervision, proactively seeking out assistance when necessary

Experience or knowledge in the following areas a plus:

  • Commercial Insurance knowledge
  • Atlassian suite of tools
  • Oversight of external consultants for development and professional services
  • Third-party or vendor management

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in a business or technical field, or equivalent work experience
