Job Description

This position requires the ability to work the following hours:

  • Ability to work a specified schedule of 7:00am to 4:00pm with occasional overtime for scheduled changes during off-hours.
  • Employee will provide on-call Operations support for Enterprise Unix Services during non-working hours for one week every 1.5 months.
  • Must be able to work outside of normal business hours and occasionally on weekends.


Technical Support Analyst

This position is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual who is passionate about working in a modern, mission-critical information technology environment. Under the supervision of the Manager, Enterprise Unix Services, the Technical Support Analyst will be highly motivated to master the tools and processes required to support one of the Nation's top ranked research universities. As a member of the Enterprise Unix Services team within the UC Irvine Office of Information Technology, the incumbent will provide operational support for on premise and cloud servers utilizing Unix based operating systems and open-source software. OIT staff members are responsible for providing the highest degree of support to the campus community through the implementation and deployment of services.

Operational Support (60%)

Under supervision, provide support for Unix based operating systems and associated open-source software.  Create and maintain Ansible automation files used to configure systems and services. Develop and maintain shell scripts and programs used to perform service administration tasks. Manage Incident, Request, Problem, Change and Project tasks using the ServiceNow ITSM platform. Fulfill standard service requests within specified SLA targets.

Operational Monitoring (40%)

Configure and use monitoring tools to ensure proper operation and response of production OIT applications and services. Review daily operational logs and monitoring tool events to generate tickets and coordinate team response. Assist with gathering operations data for planning reports and performance metrics.
