What's the role?

A UX Designer at Northwestern Mutual has a passion for simplicity and design that makes a difference in people's lives. They are hands-on, innovative, and excited to see a project through from start to finish, in a collaborative fashion. We are leading a major digital transformation and our UX Designers can expect to play a critical part, typically owning 1-2 projects. An ideal candidate should be a fierce advocate for our users and their needs. Their work should strive to achieve core business objectives and set industry standards. They should be passionate about the work we are doing and always striving to push our vision forward.

  • Ability to translate requirements and synthesize insights from research.
  • Ability to turn this information into useful, useable, and elegant solutions.
  • Produce high-quality and thoughtful journey maps, user flows, site-maps, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Be a conceptual thinker and always explore multiple directions before landing on a solution.
  • Strong collaboration with all disciplines of design, product, and engineering to bring the work to life.
  • Ability to handle more than one project with different timelines simultaneously and be able to represent their work.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

  • 2+ years of experience at an agency, start-up, or in-house
  • Significant knowledge of UX fundamentals: user-centered design process, product research, usability heuristics, graphic design, information architecture, interaction design, and experience design
  • Self-starter who is user-focused, detail- and solutions-oriented
  • Experience creating systematic designs and working independently
  • Ability to clearly articulate design decisions in written and oral form
  • Proficiency in a variety of design and prototyping tools (Sketch, Principle and InVision)
  • Link to work or an online portfolio is required
