Job Description

Our client is a top tier financial services firm that is well established, profitable, with a large, complex, "state of the art" infrastructure that is great for developing/honing your troubleshooting / support technical skills and open door for career opportunities.  They are looking to add a talented, experienced resource who can provide hands on keyboard technical service troubleshooting coupled with some mentoring/leadership on a team of Level 2 System Administrators/Engineers. This group handles incident, request and change tickets for a broad range of technologies, including but not limited to Unix/Linux, Windows Server, Storage Systems, Database Servers, Mainframe and Web infrastructures. 80% of the work is outside of Windows Server Systems, and is bulked in the Unix/Linux, Storage, Database Administration, or related areas.  In this role the individual will be expected to be highly technical and have deep trouble shooting skills in large enterprise environments and have the interpersonal and leadership skills to provide guidance and coaching to less experienced System Admins in a production environment.  This role will require good multi-tasking skills as well as ability to work under pressure.  

The Senior System Administrator / Engineer (SE) will be focused on the following essential duties/responsibilities:

  • Working on a team of Operations System Administrators / Technical Specialists, will mentor and provide guidance to less experienced team members and assist them resolve issues as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve/close trouble, incident, or request tickets following the stated guidelines provided by each department or management. 
  • Provides pro-active / top tier technical support in an complex enterprise environment comprised of Unix/Linux, Windows Servers, Storage, Database, Mainframe and Web Infrastructure technologies.
  • Create change control tickets as needed and escalates issues to senior staff members to resolve complex problems as required. 
  • Will update and record all needed info into the ticketing system and assist with administration if required. 
  • Ability to provides consistent, clear and concise updates to tickets.  

Major Skill Requirements:

  • At least 5+ years' experience (more preferred) performing Production support / troubleshooting in a large, complex enterprise environment. 
  • Have at least 3 or more years' experience troubleshooting more than 2 of the following technologies (the more the better)  Unix/Linux, Storage, Database or Web Infrastructure technologies, Windows Server and related.  Hands on keyboard experience with Unix/Linux or Database Administration is a big plus! 
  • Top tier interpersonal and customer interaction / service skills coupled with a talent for and desire to coach, mentor, and support less senior staff members as needed.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability and aptitude to learn multiple technologies and fill in any knowledge gaps necessary to support environment. 
  • Ability to develop, review and follow documented procedures, work under pressure and with deadlines.
  • 3 day work week, 7PM - 8AM shift, 1/2 for lunch.  Thu, Fri, Sat shift.  No after hours support, work your 37.5 hours and off to enjoy 4 day work week! 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
