The Oregon Medical Board (OMB) is looking for a Systems Administrator with a strong background in information systems management and security to join our amazing team.  This announcement is for a full time, limited duration position, with some flexibility in work schedule and remote working.  This position is represented by Service Employees International Union and is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

The mission of the Oregon Medical Board (OMB) is to protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of Oregon citizens by regulating the practice of medicine in a manner that promotes access to quality care. The OMB licenses, regulates and investigates Oregon medical doctors, doctors of osteopathic medicine, podiatrists, physician assistants and acupuncturists. Collectively, they are referred to as “licensees.” The Board licenses, monitors, disciplines and educates its licensees to assure their fitness and competence to serve the people of Oregon. Here’s what you will do:

As the Systems Administrator, you will support the agency’s technology infrastructure and provide customer assistance.   Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain agency technology hardware assets according to established procedures.
  • Analyze system performance and addresses performance problems.
  • Work with State and 3rd party vendors when needed to comply with requirements, implement improved features, and resolve agency-impacting issues.
  • Audit hosted services to ensure compliance with agency requirements and security protocols.
  • Identify hardware and software defects and configuration problems, research failures, escalate, and contact vendor technical support as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot, perform routine maintenance, and replace technology resources to ensure continuity of operations for the agency, other state agencies, and other external parties while maintaining the integrity of agency data.
  • Install and configure technology new to the industry and state without the need to rely on state resources outside the agency.
  • Manage software and devices located at many remote locations as well as in numerous cloud environments.
  • Improve and maintains security controls including but not limited to all CIS Controls to maintain compliance with NIST, CJIS, and Statewide Information Security Standards.
  • Create and maintain documentation and procedures for systems management and resolving technical problems.
  • Redesign business processes to handle rapid technology changes within the state and the industry.
  • Coordinate implementations and resolutions with multiple state agencies and manage systems that communicate and exchange information with external agencies and organizations.
  • Provide second level end user support for agency systems as escalated by the agency’s User Support Specialist.
  • Explain/communicate complex technical concepts or issues to non-technical customers
  • Respond to system outages or issues including systems that are time sensitive, enforce regulatory compliance, and are mission critical of a public safety agency.
  • Respond to needs and requests of other state agencies to provide assistance, coordinate efforts, and devise solutions.
  • Proactively identify improvements intended to increase efficiency or productivity in work efforts, processes, or application features.
  • Evaluate costs, specifications, and organizational policies to recommend system improvements and necessary infrastructure investments; provide manager with clear, concise information that informs data-driven decisions.
  • Establish and maintain agency security policies, internal controls, and protocols that ensure the proper securing of data and systems throughout the agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(a) Five (5) years of information systems experience in Systems Administration

OR

 

(b) An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field,

OR

completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field;

AND

three (3) years of information systems experience in: Systems administration;

OR

(c) A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field

AND

one (1) year of information systems experience in: Systems administration.
