JOB OVERVIEW:

This is an intermediate level role responsible for assisting with LAN / WAN and help desk administration activities, including network maintenance, technical guidance, and security in coordination with the Technology Infrastructure team.

  • One of the key roles that exist on the team is that of VMware NSX L3 Operations position. This person will be part of the global Virtualization Support and Operations team responsible for supporting our VSphere and NSX environments focusing on NSX that supports our internal cloud.
  • The position reports to the CTI NSX Infrastructure Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for NSX environment builds and maintenance VMware version migrations, and troubleshooting of the entire Virtualization infrastructure.
  • Additional responsibilities include working with automation and updating products to install and maintain security updates and patches.
  • Knowledge of VMware NSX products is a must for this position along with a background with infrastructure operational procedures.
  • As the VMware NSX L3 Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the technical design, implementation and ongoing support to ensure project and customer success derived from VMware NSX.
  • You will be completely focused on selling the value of VMware Network Virtualization and Security which includes technology from VMware and other vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

There are specific skill sets deemed "cornerstones" to a successful Virtualization Support Analyst. These skills are required with a varying level of experience based upon the immediate or long-term need.

  • 5+ years as a Technical Lead who is very strong with VMware skills (vSphere, vCloud, NSX)
  • 5+ years experience in technology related work, working on large-scale enterprise and service provider environments
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking tools and technologies (e.g., Ethernet, IP, ARP, ping, traceroute)
  • Strong understanding of standards-based routing protocols (OSPF and BGP)
  • Understanding of core load balancing principles as well as Transport and Application Layer principles (persistence, monitoring [TCP, HTTP, HTTPS], cookies, etc.)
  • Familiar or experienced with VMware vSphere environment (e.g., vCenter, ESXi hosts, etc.)
  • Experience with scripting (Powershell, Python, Perl, BASH, etc.)
  • Understanding of network-based security (e.g., access lists) and security concepts (black list vs. white list)
  • Familiarity with separation of responsibility between management, control, and data planes in networking
  • Familiarity with Clos fabric (i.e., spine leaf network architecture)
  • Scripting Skills - Python, PowerShell
  • Passionate about technology and its impact on customers
  • Enthusiastic and charismatic presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, team player with a positive, pro-active and self-motivating attitude and ability to operate across multiple discipline groups.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
