Job Description

The Web Content Specialist/Designer specializes in visual communication. This position performs professional-level work designing, developing, and maintaining websites, graphics, and applications that are highly usable, accessible, and engaging. Provides assistance and training for the use of web applications and content management system to county employees. Responsible for creating, updating, and managing content within the content management systems. Evaluates, tests, and troubleshoots websites and web applications.

Examples of Duties:

  • Creates, updates, and manages web content and supports other creators in the content management system for citizen and employee-focused websites. Performs updates in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Produces finished web pages from content information provided by departments. This includes producing HTML, CSS, client scripting, cropping, enhancing, and optimizing images, and uploading files to the server.
  • Utilizes tools to monitor websites for performance, search engine optimization (SEO), monitor broken links, monitor misspellings and grammar, and usability and accessibility issues. Works to reduce the number of issues.
  • Reviews websites and analytic data for areas that can be improved, including improving website navigation to help users more easily find content.
  • Creates and maintains web forms and low-code/no-code applications.
  • Works with stakeholders to define User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) for websites and web applications. Follows User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design best practices.
  • Designs, creates, and edits images and graphics for web and print.
  • Designs the layout of new websites and graphic elements within existing department web pages and applications. Revises and finalizes designs and layouts based on the input of stakeholders. Ensures websites support responsive design.
  • Converts information into web pages, interactive PDF documents, and graphics.
  • Travels to remote locations to gather information and photographs of employees and buildings for digital use.
  • Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations.
  • Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum three years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience with CivicEngage and Microsoft SharePoint Online preferred.
  • Certificate in Computer Graphics, Visual Communications, and/or Creative Web Design preferred.
  • Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license required. Must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
