Vector's Client in Rockville, MD has an immediate need for a Web System Administrator for a government contract that we support in Rockville. Our client s government program is a rapidly growing program that is moving towards fault tolerant, high availability technology solutions. The candidate will be working directly for this program and will be responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of the servers, .Net production websites and development environments. He/she will be working with minimal supervision and hence will need to be highly motivated and have a very strong work ethic. The candidate will need to grow continuously with the program and should be open to gradual evolution of responsibilities with the Web/Server/Application Administration spheres.
The candidate will have three main job junctions:
Project Systems Administrator: The Client's corporate systems team will be responsible for installing the OS, racking the servers and connecting it to the Client's network. This project systems administrator will be responsible for all aspects of server instantiation, upkeep and maintenance from that point. He/she will be responsible for the windows servers that the project operates. In addition to that, the project has a growing number of Linux servers. Hence, familiarity with Linux is a strong plus. Although, familiarity with hardware concepts may be useful in collaborating with the corporate systems team, this administrator will be working closely with the project and his/her focus will be the management of the Windows and Linux servers.
Webmaster: Among other applications, the client hosts a highly critical website supporting about 40,000 cancer researchers spread across North America. This website was built in-house. Although this administrator will be doing no development or architecture, he/she will be working closely with the development and testing teams. Hence, he/she will also be responsible for supporting developers and testers, creating and maintaining development environments, scanning website code, fixing vulnerabilities, deploying the code and making sure the production instances of the website run smoothly with highest possible up times. The administrator will work closely with developers on resolving application/user issues and will need to be very good at troubleshooting.
Technology Champion: The administrator will be supporting the Systems Manager, and other development managers with other initiatives within the project. He/she should be good at analyzing problems, conceptualizing and implementing creative technology solutions. Although he/she need not know, Jenkins, WildFly, Logrhythm etc., he/she will be working with these technologies and others that the project may acquire to make the user experience better. Hence, he/she will need to be technology champion and a quick learner.
