Windows System Administrator / Research Support Analyst


The School of Social Ecology (SE) at UC Irvine is seeking a highly motivated, self-starter to serve as a Windows System Administrator / Research Support Analyst under the direction of the SE Director of Computing. The incumbent will be responsible for the needs of all SE networks including those for staff, faculty, and labs. The incumbent will also serve as the primary point of contact with the UCI Office of Information Technology for the SE Secure Research Environment (SRE) and faculty research computing needs in general, will manage all licensing counts and distribution for computers managed within the School of Social Ecology, and provide high level (Tier 3) technical support when called upon with complex questions. The incumbent will possess advanced Windows administration knowledge, exhibit excellent customer service within a team environment, and exemplify excellence in the University core competencies - job mastery, goal accomplishment, enterprise contribution and innovation. The incumbent is expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of automation trends in IT and support change management both in the SE Computing unit, as well as in the School as a whole.

 

WINDOWS SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION
               

  • Organize, manage and deploy Windows networks for all faculty, staff and lab environments.  Monitor Windows servers for resource and capacity issues, perform software updates, and keep up-to-date on secure networking practices.
  •  Enhance automation, stream line processes, and strengthen security for Windows networks within the School.
  •  Oversee user account management, including account creation, deletion, the unlocking accounts and resetting of passwords.

 
RESEARCH SUPPORT
 

  • Determine, in response to faculty requests and in conjunction with faculty, the research computing needs of faculty and work closely with management to adhere to all research security requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison with OIT to facilitate research locations that best meet faculty needs for their specific research project(s).
  • Write and maintain all research documentation.

 
LICENSING
 

  • Manage and document all licensing needs, including purchasing, for the School.
  • Document and communicate changes in licensing policies and procedures, as well as deployment practices, to others within the SE Computing team.
  • Stay current on software licensing trends, both on and off campus, to ensure a cost effective and efficient licensing environment for the School.

 
TIER 3 SUPPORT

  • Provide high level technical support to the School's other computing technicians and customers as needed. Support and provide backup during absences of other SE Computing team members.
  • Respond in a timely manner to Cerb Helpdesk tickets regarding server related issues and escalate problems or challenges to management.
