Basic Purpose

Seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to apply a software engineering mindset to IT Operations challenges. This engineer will leverage their significant experience to improve system's reliability, efficiency and scalability; through automation and the reduction of manual tasks.
The position will be responsible for researching, evaluating, designing, implementing, and maintaining systems and product solutions, and applying knowledge of engineering principles to meet SLOs. May be expected to lead the coordination of activities between multiple disciplines within IT and vendors on both technical and non-technical issues pertaining to infrastructure, software, containers, networking, and integration.

• Respond to incidents and determine preventative solutions
• Troubleshoot complex reliability and performance issues
• Automate manual processes, evolve monitoring tools, and develop technical documentation
• Support a highly available and large scale environment
• Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement solutions that align with business needs and objectives

• Identify opportunities to effectively mitigate risk and improve performance and functionality
• Drive system testing including evaluation, verification & validation activities
• Install, maintain, configure, and monitor systems infrastructure and container infrastructure on a widely distributed network
• Provide forward thinking technical expertise in current and emerging technologies, trends and practices
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
• Experience with a Configuration Management tool (e.g. Ansible)
• Experience with an Infrastructure Management tool (e.g. Terraform)
• Experienced in developing and supporting for a containerized environment (e.g. OpenShift, Tansu, Kubernetes)
• Experienced in developing and utilizing Continuous Integration/Deployment pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, Concourse)
• Experienced in Scripting languages (e.g. Ruby, Python, Go, Javascript)
• server operating systems using Template-as-Code (e.g. Packer)
• Supporting services via monitoring availability, system health, and incident response
• Experience of working with Agile software development practices (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban)
• Understanding of end-to-end IT process, including architecture, design & engineering, implementation, and operations
• Troubleshooting skills and ability to identify root causes of issues and provide solutions
• Understanding of system hardening and enforcing security standards
• Self-motivated and proactive, able to learn quickly and apply new concepts, tools and applications
• Ability to solve complex system/integration problems through innovative solutions

• Understanding of Networking protocols and standard network architectures (e.g. TCP/IP, HTTP)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field OR equivalent experience
• Previous work related experience in developing with the HashiCorp suite of tools (e.g. Terraform, Packer, Vault, Consul)
• Previous work related experience in developing in Chef, Salt, Puppet, and/or Ansible
• Previous work related experience in supporting Redhat, CentOS, and/or Windows
• Previous work related experience in developing Software Defined Networks
• Experienced in Object Oriented Programming language (e.g. C#, C, C++, Java, Python, .NET)
• Previous work related experience in implementing Test Driven Development
• Previous work related experience in designing, testing, and supporting Cloud native computing
• Knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies and procedures

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Salary: Level III: $83,100 - $142,000
Level IV: $95,600 - $163,500

Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range, based on your experience, location and market position.

*Navy Federal is now hybrid! Our standard enterprise requirement for a hybrid schedule is to report onsite 4-16 days each month. The number of days reporting onsite will ultimately be determined by the employee's leadership and business unit needs. You will learn more throughout the hiring and onboarding process.
