The Information Technology (ITS) Services Department is seeking an experienced Senior Security Engineer to join the Security Architecture team in the Information Security and Privacy Office.  IT professionals in this division work closely with professionals in other technology environments, and in other City departments; thus, offering opportunities for continued professional growth.  Additionally, technology training is available to allow employees the opportunity to enhance their technical skills.

The Senior Security Engineer will be responsible for the provisioning, deployment, configuration, and administration of network and security related hardware and software including firewalls, routers, switches, and virtual private networks (VPNs).  Additionally, this position will oversee the implementation of network security to ensure compliance with information security policies, standards, and procedures. 

Key Duties

  • Participate in the development and execution of a security governance board.
  • Provide security engineering for citywide IT projects by providing aid and guidance in implementing new and existing security controls, baselines, and systems integration.
  • Provide support for day-to-day operations of the City’s network security infrastructure.
  • Provide disaster recovery/business continuity engineering planning.

The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of network and security technology with the experience in applying this knowledge to complex environments to keep network services and data secure.

IDEAL CANDIDATE will possess:

  • Familiarity with network diagramming software, preferably Microsoft Visio.
  • Ability to perform, and review highly complex network security operational activities and projects.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for network security hardware and software installation and operation.
  • Understanding of the system hardening processes, tools, guidelines and benchmarks and encryption technologies.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols and technologies, servers, virtual environments, and cloud technology.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.


$73,382 - $111,696 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

  • Two years of experience as an Information Technology Systems Specialist involving database management and on-line telecommunications;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Four years of experience designing and/or implementing specialized technical software in support of IT network security.
  • Possession of Network Security credentials such as CISSP (ISSAP/ ISSEP), CCSP, CCNA Security, and/or CCNP Security.
  • Hands-on experience with the following security systems and applications: vulnerability scanning, next generation firewall, antivirus & malware analysis, proxy, IDS/IPS, log correlation tools, Data Loss Prevention, Network Access Control, VPN, web content filtering and application firewall solutions.
