Seeking a passionate visual storyteller with a background in editorial design. The ideal candidate is digital-focused but print-familiar and able to seamlessly shift between design, art direction, and data visualization for complex financial and business stories. This Art Director will be part of a three-person design team and will report to the Head of Visuals. This full-time hybrid role is based in NYC, in office 3 days per week. Responsibilities:5+ years in an editorial department or newsroom role.Great communication skills and comfort working directly with editors.Excellent journalistic judgment and integrity.Excellent grasp of visual and typographical hierarchy.Knowledge of news, politics, finance.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom juggling hourly, daily, and weekly deadlines.Experience assigning and art directing illustration.An existing network of artists with the ability to identify fresh and emerging talent.The ability to distill data into easily digestible visualizations and walk readers through complex information in an engaging way.

Must Have:deep newsroom experienceexperience in publication design department (no junior roles)an assertive, production orientated go getter Required Skills:Adobe CC expertise.Basic HTML + CSS, other applicable web languages related to data.Visualization.At ease working in a digital CMS, e.g., Wordpress.Experience with Figma is a plus.Experience with Methode or other print-related CMS is a plus.Interest in and understanding of the financial world is a plus.
