JOB DESCRIPTION:
At MassDOT IT, our AI Engineering Team builds custom web applications with leading LLMs, largely in secure Amazon Bedrock environments. Our aim is to streamline business processes and deliver constituent value by implementing AI solutions responsibly. Data security and human-centered design are core to our approach, as we operate in a highly regulated industry. We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in AI development and AWS services to help us build and deploy public sector AI solutions.

Required Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in Applications, AI/ML development and implementation
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Amazon Bedrock and related AWS services
- Strong understanding of AI/ML frameworks, model deployment, and optimization
- Understanding of Application integration patterns and demonstrated project work integrating into complex systems
- Proficiency in React and TypeScript for building AI-powered user interfaces
- Experience designing intuitive UI/UX for AI applications
- Comfort using cloud-based version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Prior work in the public sector or government projects
- Familiarity with compliance requirements and security standards
- AWS AI Cloud Practitioner certifications desired
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Design, develop, test and deploy AI solutions using Amazon Bedrock and related AWS services
- Explore opportunities to integrate AI into existing applications and workflows
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand, document business requirements and deliver impactful solutions
- Ensure best practices in model deployment, monitoring, and maintenance
- Complete AI COE artifacts and technical documentation for knowledge transfer and audit compliance
- Participate in collaborative development using version control and CI/CD
