Position: Cloud Engineer 4
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid 1 to 3 days/week onsite)
Duration: 12 months (with potential for extension)
Visa: No visa restrictions all candidates welcome
Onsite Requirement: Must be available onsite from Day 1 (no exceptions)
Overview:
This role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure within the Microsoft ecosystem. The engineer will handle cloud operations and administration across Azure, Entra, Power Platform, and Dynamics365 environments, contributing to both R&D and production support functions. You ll work closely with internal teams and stakeholders, helping drive automation, operational excellence, and cloud best practices across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Design and maintain Microsoft cloud systems using Azure, Azure DevOps, and GitHub
Create infrastructure-as-code templates and build/release pipelines to deploy infrastructure on Microsoft Cloud
Administer and support Azure, Entra, Power Platform, and Dynamics365
Monitor, manage, and improve Microsoft Cloud environments
Collaborate with Microsoft support to troubleshoot and implement best-practice solutions
Implement automation strategies to reduce operational workload
Contribute to high-quality documentation and peer reviews
Work independently on complex cloud components supporting multiple applications
Actively engage in team knowledge-sharing, growth, and continuous improvement
Work cross-functionally with DevOps engineers, solution architects, security, and project stakeholders
Perform other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree with at least 8 years of experience, or 12+ years of experience without a degree
Required Technical Skills:
Experience managing Azure, Entra, and Power Platform through web portals, command-line interfaces, and CI/CD tools
Preferred Skills:
Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps Pipelines
Experience with Terraform for infrastructure automation
Soft Skills:
Comfortable working in an R&D environment while also handling administrative tasks
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Proactive team player who is curious, hands-on, and solution-driven
Typical Day-to-Day Tasks:
Manage and support Microsoft cloud environments (Azure, Power Platform, Dynamics365)
Collaborate with business stakeholders including PMs, product owners, and users
Work with technical teams to ensure successful delivery of cloud solutions
Write and review infrastructure code and technical documentation
Team Interaction:
Work within a DevOps team of 13, supporting a new project involving over 60 team members
The team is highly cross-functional, requiring team members to learn new tools and contribute flexibly across roles
Work Environment:
Hybrid work model with 1 3 days onsite in Chicago per week
