Unit Context:
The Corporate Solutions department within ITS, known as ITSCO, is focused on providing tailored IT solutions that support the World Bank Group's Corporate Vice Presidencies. As one of eight specialized departments in ITS, ITSCO is structured into three key units: Corporate Technology Solutions (ITSCC), Digital Engagement (ITSCD), and Workforce Solutions (ITSWS). This department is tasked with the development, maintenance, and support of essential systems used by World Bank Group staff and consultants. ITSCO's portfolio includes mission-critical applications such as the Global Travel Solutions, Human Capital Management suite of Solutions, WBG Integrated Planning Solution, Corporate Procurement Systems, Board Operating System, Intranet, External Web, OLC, among others.
The ITS Corporate Technology Solutions (ITSCC) unit within the ITSCO department develops and supports high-impact automation solutions for internal partners. By enhancing operational efficiency, automating processes, and integrating functions across areas like Global Travel, Board and Executive Solutions, Procurement, Health Services, and Partner Relationship Management, ITSCC drives innovation and optimizes service delivery throughout the organization.
Job Description:
ITSCC is seeking a Solution Architect with strong technical and analytical skills to work with business partners to architect and develop requirements, implement solutions in Microsoft Application space, prioritize work based on various business needs, provide coordination to the project/product teams as needed.
Candidate should be highly motivated individual who has extensive experience with Business Solutions (Solution Architecture) and expertise in modernizing application portfolio to adopt cloud-native solutions, and technologies like Angular, HTML5, CSS3, Node.js, and Azure platforms, C#, SQL server, Azure based PaaS & SaaS services (ASE, Azure AD, Azure Functions, Azure Analysis Services etc.) REST APIs and Azure Service Bus.
The candidate requires strong theoretical background and substantial experience in Travel Domain, strong analytical skills to critically evaluate gathered information, documentation of systems. We are looking for a highly motivated and versatile candidate who can demonstrate attention to detail and who can communicate effectively with non-technical clients.
This position is based in Washington, DC., and reports to ITSCC Team Lead.
Responsibilities
Design, architect, and implement highly scalable, available, and fault-tolerant systems in the cloud (AWS and Azure) and on-premises.
Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, solutions engineers, and clients to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
Implement key patterns and common services, expanding them to core platforms for reuse in similar solutions.
Define transition approaches and roadmaps for migrating legacy systems.
Work with Agile teams to identify inconsistencies in architectural design and assist the ART in making necessary changes.
Design, develop, enhance, debug, support, and maintain mission-critical applications.
Provide hands-on application development and guidance, overseeing a team of developers both on-premises and offshore to ensure effective and efficient solution delivery.
Architect, develop, and implement application integration with SAP ERP landscapes using SAP NCO connector and/or MuleSoft ESB services.
Collaborate with usability designers to integrate HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX (jQuery, AngularJS & 2+, JSON, Bootstrap) with functional programming.
Ensure security compliance by following guidelines and best practices in coordination with the Information Security team.
Design, develop, and deliver applications that meet performance standards, particularly in low-bandwidth environments.
Analyze time-sensitive issues related to web technologies and determine alternative or creative solutions that add value to the business and ensure client satisfaction.
Work closely with infrastructure teams (SAP ERP BASIS, Security Administration, Windows teams, External Vendor partners, etc.) to define deployment architecture, plan capacity for unique environments, and resolve critical issues.
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture (EA) and the Office of Information Security (OIS) on accreditation-related activities for new and existing applications.
Clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences, including leadership and external partners, to build consensus and secure buy-in.
Oversee and implement pilot projects, managing testing, validation, and prototype iteration to align with user needs and organizational risk policies.
Oversee and contribute to multiple solution lifecycles from conception through launch, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.
Leverage cloud platforms (Azure) and implement DevOps practices such as CI/CD and infrastructure as code to enhance product deployment and operations.
Create detailed architectural documentation and diagrams to ensure product design clarity and adherence to enterprise standards.
Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including external travel vendor partners, developers, QA, product managers, and stakeholders, to ensure cohesive product development.
Selection Criteria
Master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Proficient in .NET, C#, SQL Server, and Azure services, with expertise in designing and implementing REST APIs, MS Dynamics 365 plugins, and microservices for seamless integration within enterprise architectures.
AWS or Azure Architect certification along with SaFe Architect Certificationis required.
Domain experience of the Travel industry and related products is a must.
Experience integrating cloud and travel management platforms with SAP ERP, Concur, or other corporate travel systems such as GDS systems like Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport.
Understanding of data protection, PCI-DSS, GDPR, and secure coding practices for handling sensitive travel data.
Proven ability to architect, design, and develop product-based solutions and systems. Minimum 5 years of experience within a product-focused environment, including managing offshore or distributed teams.
Strong knowledge of DevOps principles, practices, and tools, particularly Azure DevOps.
Extensive expertise in cloud computing, including infrastructure, services, security, auto-scaling, performance monitoring, and best practices.
Experience with modern authentication and authorization frameworks.
Strong experience with front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and Angular, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions aligned with architectural best practices.
Advanced knowledge of CSS pre-processors such as LESS and SASS, frameworks like Bootstrap
Experience and knowledge in implementing containerized applications in either AWS or Azure cloud environments.
Experience and knowledge in implementing solutions that leverage business processes, workflow management and document management capabilities.
Familiarity with application performance and end-user monitoring tools like Azure App Insights and Adobe Analytics.
Experience with WBG in enterprise architecture and integrating corporate solutions or SaaS products is a plus.
Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external teams and virtual teams.
