W2 Contract, 12 Months (Likely Extension / Possible Conversion)
This is a hybrid position. Candidates must be comfortable working onsite in Oakbrook Terrace, IL on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
Overview:
Work with a leading energy utility firm on critical infrastructure projects. We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Engineer to join the Public Relocation team. In this role, you will be the first line of defense in protecting our client's facilities against conflicts with upcoming public works projects, such as road widenings and new utility installations. You will play a key role in ensuring projects run smoothly by proactively identifying issues and negotiating solutions with government agencies. Use GIS and other internal record systems to review existing utility maps against proposed plans from agencies like the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Identify and document potential conflicts between our client's electrical infrastructure (e.g., poles) and proposed public improvement projects.
Mark up engineering drawings and prepare formal response letters detailing identified conflicts and recommending next steps.
Proactively contact engineering representatives at government agencies to negotiate minor adjustments to their designs to eliminate conflicts.
Collaborate with internal Project Managers, providing them with detailed information to proceed with relocation projects when conflicts cannot be avoided.
Conduct occasional field visits to job sites to verify conditions, requiring a valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience working on utility projects.
Demonstrated experience reading and preparing plans/profiles for utility infrastructure (e.g., electric, gas, water, sewer).
Ability to work a hybrid schedule with three required days per week in the Oakbrook Terrace, IL office.
A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for occasional field visits.
Preferred Qualifications:
5 or more years of experience in a utility-focused engineering role.
A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
Specific experience with electrical utility design or geometric roadway design.
