Job Description
We are seeking a Mid-Level SQL Server Migration DBA to assist with planning, executing, and validating database migrations. This role requires hands-on experience in SQL Server administration and migration tools across multiple versions and platforms.
What You'll Do
- Assist with the assessment and documentation of existing SQL Server environments
- Support database migration efforts, including backup/restore, scripting, data transfers, and validation
- Perform routine health checks and troubleshooting during and after migrations
- Collaborate with senior DBAs, infrastructure, and application teams
- Execute test migrations and contribute to performance tuning and optimization
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and security compliance throughout the migration process
- Maintain documentation and support incident resolution post-migration
What You'll Need
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in SQL Server administration and support (versions 2012 through latest)
- Familiarity with SQL Server migration processes and tools (e.g., Data Migration Assistant, backup/restore, always on, or log shipping)
- Proficiency in T-SQL and scripting for automation
- Working knowledge of SQL Server features like jobs, indexes, users/roles, and performance plans
- Experience supporting on-premises and/or hybrid environments
- Strong understanding of SQL Server tools: SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, and SQL Profiler
- Hands-on experience with database migration tools and techniques
- Experience with cloud-based migration (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS for SQL Server)
- Troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
- Good communication and documentation capabilities
- Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented setting
- Ability to follow directions while also taking initiative when needed
