Instructional Designer I

Contract | Hybrid | Vienna, VA Winchester, VA Pensacola, FL

Pay (W2 + 56 hours PTO)

  • Vienna, VA: $25 $27/hr
  • Pensacola, FL: $20 $23/hr

Details

  • Schedule: Mon Fri, 8:00 AM 4:30 PM (local time)
  • Onsite Requirement: 3 days/week
  • Contract Length: 6 months
  • Experience Required: 1 5 years

Basic Purpose

The Instructional Designer I plans, develops, and manages instructional design initiatives within the business unit and across the organization. This role is responsible for designing effective training experiences, creating curricula, developing learning materials, and aligning content with business needs. The Instructional Designer I works with minimal supervision and supports the full lifecycle of training content.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and assist trainers on course evaluation results (Advanced).
  • Collaborate on planning and designing courses and curricula; ensure accuracy of content and multimedia elements (Assist in leading).
  • Conduct needs assessments to support custom training requests and performance improvement (Advanced analysis).
  • Create and edit LMS learning activities; manage required training assignments; generate custom LMS reports.
  • Develop dynamic instructional and training materials using modern technologies and support tools (Advanced).
  • Design, develop, and test course content, training games, graphics, and tech-driven learning products (Advanced).
  • Develop classroom, online, and self-directed learning content that drives behavior change (Advanced).
  • Create instructional strategies for business unit and cross-company training initiatives (Advanced).
  • Evaluate course effectiveness and ensure alignment with learning objectives (Advanced).
  • Participate in project teams with multiple deliverables, risks, and complexities (Assist in leading).
  • Select effective instructional methods including blended learning solutions (Advanced).
  • Define design models, learning objectives, and project frameworks based on identified needs (Advanced).
  • Train internal team members on effective use of ILT/VILT materials.
  • Integrate feedback and evaluations into updates of course content and delivery methods (Advanced).
  • Conduct presentations for various audiences, including executive leadership (Advanced).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Required unless noted)

  • Bachelor s degree in Education, Business, Communications, Behavioral Sciences, Training Development, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workflows.
  • Strong ability to compile, organize, and present information clearly.
  • Experience evaluating course and learning product effectiveness.
  • Experience developing course content, demonstrations, graphic designs, and tech-based learning tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional theories, educational psychology, and instructional resources.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design for products, processes, and skills training.
  • Advanced ability to influence and guide others toward goals.
  • Proficiency with database and presentation software.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to capture and translate processes into clear documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with technical and functional stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Skill in assessing training needs and researching content.
  • Ability to build strategic plans and collaborate with partner leadership.
  • Ability to interact tactfully and effectively in challenging situations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Experience in multimedia training development.
