Heavy Civil Estimator

Position Overview
The Heavy Civil Estimator plays a critical role in the pre-construction phase by preparing accurate and competitive estimates for heavy civil construction projects. The primary objective is to analyze project requirements, develop cost estimations, and ensure that bids are submitted on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project plans and specifications to understand scope and requirements.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs to determine the materials and labor needed for projects.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for heavy civil projects.
  • Analyze and evaluate bid proposals and contracts to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop project schedules.
  • Perform risk analysis and management to mitigate potential project challenges.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, pricing, and subcontractor capabilities.
  • Utilize value engineering techniques to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
  • Assist in the preparation of bid documents and presentations for potential clients.
  • Oversee and review site development planning and heavy equipment utilization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid, On-Screen Takeoff a plus
  • Proven experience as an estimator in heavy civil construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction management and project management principles.
  • Proficient in cost analysis and budgeting.
  • Experience with contracts and bid proposals in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with risk management practices related to construction projects.
  • Excellent skills in scheduling and specifications review.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment and site development processes.
  • Ability to perform quantity takeoffs accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with attention to detail.
