Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Systems Engineering Integration team is seeking a highly talented Aerospace Systems Safety Engineer (Experienced - level 3, Senior - level 4 or Principal - level 5) to join their team in Everett, WA.

Position Overview:

The BCA SMS Design team is expanding to enhance safety at Boeing by adding Safety Implementation Leads. Safety Implementation Leads lead implementation and execution of Boeing's Safety Management System (SMS). We partner with all functions and across programs to implement safety risk identification and mitigation methods. We guide execution using the SMS Framework:
  • Safety Policy and Objectives - Safety Implementation Leads support Boeing's commitment to safety to live a Positive Safety Culture by embedding SMS principles across engineering.
  • Safety Risk Management (SRM) - Leads facilitate risk-based decision-making, guide identifying, assessing, and mitigating hazards to an acceptable level, and ensures mitigated risks are effectively monitored through Safety Assurance. Work directly with functions to set up local safety management systems to manage risks at appropriate management levels.
  • Safety Assurance (SA) - Leads evaluate completed risk controls to verify their effectiveness to ensure risk reduction measures achieve intended safety outcomes and enable efforts to address unintended consequences.
  • Safety Promotion - Leads drive safety training, education, and communication, sharing lessons learned across the BCA Engineering and the enterprise to strengthen Boeing's safety culture.

Offering broad exposure to airplane design, production, certification, and operations, this role engages with experts across BCA Engineering. The position is ideal for those with a strong functional or programmatic background who thrive in an autonomous, cross-functional environment.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Conducts system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact.
  • Identifies safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures.
  • Performs or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements.
  • Creates and maintains aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes.
  • Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
  • Develops and maintains safety and corrective action plans.
  • Assists with demonstrating safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators.
  • Ensures mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods.

Work Authorization:

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options (Everett, WA).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of experience working in cross functional, cross-program engineering environment.
  • 5+ years experience working in a single technical field. (ex Propulsion, Interiors, Airplane Systems, Structures.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing a portfolio of projects
  • Experience with a safety management system
  • Ability to implement new ideas and solutions

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range:
  • Experienced (Level 3): $104,550 - $141,450
  • Senior (Level 4): $128,350 - $172,650
  • Principal (Level 5): $157,250 - $212,750
