Sr IT Product Owner
Houston TX (Need ONly Locals)
We are seeking an experienced Sr. IT Product Owner to lead the strategy, development, and delivery of customer-facing technology solutions within the Retail Energy sector. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the utility industry, with a strong background in digital platforms, billing portals, mobile applications, and customer engagement tools. Preference will be given to professionals with prior experience at Direct Energy, NRG, or other leading retail electricity providers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams to define and deliver high-impact customer-facing applications.
- Own the product roadmap and backlog for key digital experiences including customer onboarding, self-service portals, usage analytics, billing & payments, and mobile apps.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers, developers, QA, and business analysts to ensure timely delivery of user-centric solutions that align with business goals.
- Translate customer needs and business objectives into clearly defined epics and user stories with detailed acceptance criteria.
- Drive continuous product enhancements based on user feedback, market research, and evolving industry trends.
- Lead agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) and champion agile best practices across teams.
- Ensure alignment with compliance, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements within the utility industry.
- Provide market and competitor insights to influence product direction and feature prioritization.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the retail energy domain, bridging the gap between operations, customer service, marketing, and IT.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in IT Product Ownership or Product Management roles.
- Proven experience leading digital initiatives in Retail Energy or Utility environments.
- Strong understanding of deregulated energy markets, customer acquisition, and retention strategies.
- Hands-on experience with customer-facing technologies such as customer portals, mobile apps, CRM systems, and web platforms.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Salesforce, Oracle Utilities, or similar customer engagement tools is a plus.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with tools such as Jira, Confluence, etc.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, or a related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CSPO, SAFe) is a plus.
Preferred Background:
- Prior experience working at Direct Energy, NRG, or other major retail energy providers.
Strong utility background, including an understanding of energy usage, smart metering, billing cycles, and customer service workflows
