Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team in downtown Chicago. This hybrid role requires only one day per week onsite, offering flexibility and a collaborative environment. As a key member of our team, you will be instrumental in building and scaling our data infrastructure using cutting-edge cloud technologies, data modeling, and performance optimization. Your expertise will drive the design and implementation of data pipelines, ELT processes, and data warehousing solutions, ensuring seamless integration and enabling near real-time data processing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Data Infrastructure Design: Architect and scale data infrastructure using cloud technologies, data modeling, and performance optimization.
  • Pipeline Implementation: Develop and implement robust data pipelines, ELT processes, and data warehouse solutions (Snowflake, SQL, NoSQL).
  • Real-Time Processing: Champion near real-time data processing and integration across the organization and with vendor partners.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Innovation and Strategy: Drive data innovation across the organization, influence without authority, and empower teams with a reliable and efficient data ecosystem.
  • Mentorship: Mentor engineers on code quality, data governance, and system reliability.
  • Secure Data Exchange: Establish and maintain secure data exchange processes with vendor partners.
  • Special Projects: Collaborate with senior leadership on special projects and future planning.

Required Skills:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional Experience: 3+ years of data architecture and data warehousing experience.
  • SQL Expertise: 5+ years of experience in data modeling, SQL development, and design.
  • Development Proficiency: 7+ years of development experience with object-oriented development or scripting (Python, Java, Kotlin, Scala, PowerShell).
  • Version Control: Hands-on experience with source control systems like Git.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills:
  • Snowflake and Data Pipelines: Experience with Snowflake, data pipeline technologies like DBT, and containerized environments like Kubernetes.
  • CI/CD and Cloud Solutions: Experience with CI/CD automation, cloud-native solutions (preferably AWS), and relational and non-relational databases (Postgres, Oracle, Redis, MongoDB).
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Any leadership or mentorship experience.
