Location: Charlotte, NC (300 S Brevard) - Onsite 3 days/week
Contract Duration: 12 months (potential for full-time conversion)

In this role, you will design and implement scalable data processing solutions, contribute to strategic initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges. This position requires a deep understanding of big data technologies and a strong ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions in a fast-paced environment.

We are seeking a highly skilled Big Data Engineer to join our Corporate Risk team on a contingent basis. In this role, you will design and implement scalable data processing solutions, contribute to strategic initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges. This position requires a deep understanding of big data technologies and a strong ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement data processing pipelines using HDFS, Hive, and Apache Spark
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and highly performant
- Collaborate with Data Architects to optimize physical data models and address performance bottlenecks
- Conduct code and design reviews to uphold engineering standards and best practices
- Define and enforce data security roles, groups, and policies in collaboration with architecture teams
- Promote and implement Hadoop development standards, reusable components, and methodologies
- Partner with business stakeholders to ensure technical solutions align with business needs
- Tune datasets and queries for optimal performance
- Develop, execute, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and reports
- Lead moderately complex technical initiatives and contribute to broader engineering goals
- Collaborate with peers to resolve technical challenges and drive continuous improvement
- 5+ years of professional experience in Software Engineering or Big Data Engineering
- Proven expertise in Hadoop ecosystem tools and technologies (HDFS, Hive, Spark)
- Strong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning
- Experience with data modeling and data architecture principles
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment
- Experience in Corporate Risk or related financial services domains
- Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) or other cloud environments
- Familiarity with data governance, compliance, and security best practices
