Job Description Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for supporting key design initiatives across the electric power industry with a focus on design integration of instrumentation and control hardware for gas turbine, generator systems, supporting other GE business units on plant equipment and services. The candidate will ensure execution excellence across a portfolio of NPI, Services, ITR, PCO and CM&U programs and projects - conducting analysis, design studies and delivering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, issuing customer resolutions on defects, failures of critical systems. This position enables growth in technical breadth, strengthening of knowledge in controls system architecture and exposure to safety instrumented systems.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
  • Support the electrical/systems design and integration of an Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Package for multiple Product Lines in a power plant application
  • Capable of selecting control system hardware for Aeroderivative product packages and familiar with all the respective Generator system components
  • Familiar with gas turbine controls, generator protection, excitation, vibration monitoring and fire systems and able to navigate and solve critical safety system check and redundancies
  • Support design reviews for reliability, performance, safety, and compliance programs for overall gas turbine generator systems
  • Participate in problem solving and resolution skills (supporting RCA's, FMEA's and HAZOP reviews)
  • Working knowledge of applicable national & international codes/Standards/directives such as IEC, NEC, CSA, IECEx, ATEX etc.
  • Develop design schedule for projects/programs with milestones and work task assignments with cross functional teams
  • Interpret Single Line Diagrams and develop wiring, loop, instrumentation, and schematic diagrams and apply to electrical design principles to adapt/improve the overall system
  • Implement lean methodologies including standard work, standard product, and kaizen
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Support extended team of GE and contract engineers to ensure that all program deliverables are completed successfully on time and with good quality
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a favorable advantage to the business
  • Collaborate with key functional teams, Production and Global Supply Chain, to execute on projects/programs; additionally, supporting and driving solutions with Product Services, Project Fulfillment, Performance, Applications and Controls within engineering

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET or equivalent accredited program) from an accredited college or university OR equivalent knowledge
  • Candidates should have 1-3 years of relevant experience

Desired Characteristics:
  • Knowledgeable in control systems design, architecture, and integration of instrumentation on gas turbine generator products
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Customer-centric and team-focused
  • Demonstrated project management skills including coordinating activities across functions, demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong focus on quality, execution, and process rigor
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and ePLAN

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, The base pay range for this position is $79,400.00 - 119,000.00 USD per year.

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 5% performance bonus.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
