Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac on a full-time basis

The Role

The High Voltage Battery Pack Diagnostic Technician specializes in the safe and orderly preparation, diagnostics, testing and disassembly of Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) Packs, also known as EV Battery Packs. This role will travel up to 75%, where the technician will travel to a dealership to complete this work on the RESS packs. When travel is not required, this role would work on battery packs at the teardown facility in Pontiac, MI with a long-term plan to transition to Warren, MI.

Our team is looking for a candidate that is passionate about a safe all-electric future. The role involves diagnosing, disassembling, and testing pack components to determine the root cause of any failures. You will work closely with engineering to develop and implement corrective actions in production based on your findings.

This role is a good fit for a qualified individual who is interested in innovative battery technologies and growing in the field of vehicle electrification. You will also possess the ability to train and mentor entry level technicians.

This role will be involved in the planning and execution of new battery technologies in support of the warranty activities at the dealership.

What You'll Do
  • Lead Field Response Team deployment, traveling to US based dealers when required to root cause and tear down RESS pack on site. Estimate 75% travel.
  • Perform physical duties and tasks involving the movement, packaging, disposal and shipping of large and heavy high voltage batteries; Utilizing overhead cranes and rigging equipment along with use of forklifts and lift assist equipment.
  • Maintain records on work performed including data collected or analyzed
  • Communication of findings with engineering personnel through verbal or written means
  • Recommend revisions to process and procedures to improve safety and efficiency
  • Work with Engineering and Service teams to determine teardown/stabilization process for upcoming battery program launches.
  • Champion safe testing, diagnostics, data logging and teardown of battery assemblies and related components. This includes utilizing vehicle controls simulation hardware, RAD WBS, Hi-Pot, Oscilloscope and other diagnostic tools
  • Develop and manufacture special purpose instrumentation, cable and wiring assemblies, laboratory test equipment, and fixtures related to testing.
  • Maintain awareness of Business Plan Deployment goals and objectives, identify and suggest relevant opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain workplace organization practices

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 2-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience in the mechanical or electrical field
  • 5 years related work experience
  • Detailed knowledge of complex mechanical and/or electrical concepts
  • Competence with typical office computer applications, e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel by air and drive with no license restrictions - up to 75% travel


What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Knowledge of high voltage battery systems and safe work practices
  • Level 2B+ high voltage certified
  • Advanced diagnostic and root cause analysis experience
  • Experience with high voltage test equipment, protocols, measuring and recording devices
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics diagnostics and repair
