Job Description

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building the next generation of cloud services to power the world's most important workloads. The Global Network Engineering provides the front door to OCI by providing Internet, Backbone, and DDOS protection services. We are seeking a Consulting Software Development Engineer (IC5) to lead technical strategy for our Defensive Security team-responsible for protecting Oracle from internal and external network threats and delivering customer-facing security services, including industry-leading DDoS detection and mitigation.

As a senior technical leader, you will define and communicate technical standards, design and deliver large-scale, highly available protection capabilities, and drive automation that improves speed, resilience, and operational excellence. You will collaborate with strategic customers, field teams, vendors, and senior technical leaders across OCI to gather requirements, influence standards, and deliver solutions that scale globally. You will participate in SME operational rotations, lead incident response and post-event analysis, and mentor the next generation of network and security engineers. Industry certifications (e.g., CISSP) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and technical direction for DDoS and network defense services protecting OCI and our customers.
  • Define and evangelize engineering and operational best practices; raise the bar for network reliability, availability, and security across OCI.
  • Establish forward-looking technical standards for scale, performance, and cost efficiency; drive cross-org adoption.
  • Decompose high-level designs into executable roadmaps; work through partner teams to deliver outcomes on-time and at quality.
  • Collaborate early with network software/platform teams to build tools, frameworks, and automation for safe, repeatable rollouts.
  • Design and enhance automated detection, mitigation, and telemetry pipelines; improve signal quality, time-to-detect, and time-to-mitigate.
  • Apply deep expertise in BGP, Anycast/traffic engineering, RTBH, and cloud networking to operate and scale global protection platforms.
  • Leverage sFlow/IPFIX, routing security (e.g., RPKI), and data-driven KPIs to guide capacity planning, tuning, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as SME in operational rotations; provide break-fix support, lead escalations, and drive rigorous post-incident RCA and corrective actions.
  • Engage with strategic customers and field teams to capture requirements, shape roadmaps, and align integration standards with OCI services.
  • Author high-quality design docs, runbooks, and standards; lead design reviews and readiness assessments.
  • Mentor and develop engineers through coaching, design/code reviews, and technical guidance across the organization.
  • Partner with vendors and evaluate technologies to advance detection efficacy, mitigation scale, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a strong security and automation mindset using Python/Java to build services and tooling; champion secure-by-default designs.
