TITLE: Network (WAN) Specialist

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Associate degree in Computer Science or a related field plus four years of experience in a wide area network environment, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge and experience working with networking infrastructure and WAN networks (Microsoft, Cisco), OR highly proficient with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy, 2019 Server Infrastructure, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.

REPORTS TO: Network Systems Administrator

JOB GOAL: Under the general supervision of the Network Systems Administrator, provides leadership, operational direction, and senior-level technical or client support. Serves as a leader and representative for the department in a specialized technical area. Plans for and designs solutions to complex technology issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides guidelines for system design with the installation, maintenance, and operation of a wide area network and associated computer hardware and software.

Provides quality support with a high degree of customer satisfaction, technical expertise, and adherence to specific timelines.

Coordinates with the Network Systems Administrator various networking needs and recommends improvements and modifications to existing infrastructure.

Leads the analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of new technological solutions with a focus on infrastructure and administration of end-user devices.

Maintains documentation regarding network configurations, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software.

Installs or modifies existing installations of networked computer hardware, software, and other components.

Manages the maintenance and software updates to all application servers in the district, with the exception of the AS/400.

Provides remote assistance to customers with computer/network-related issues, group policy issues, server and connectivity issues.

Manages a test environment of servers and workstations to ensure District-level group policies and software configurations are correct.

Manages the Active Directory environment, including security groups, global distribution lists, group policies, and faculty/student account creation.

Works with the District Internet Service Provider to report issues with equipment or services and notifies appropriate District-level staff for on-site issues.

Troubleshoots technician issues, monitors tickets, and assists with other assigned tasks as needed.

Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Must possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical
information both verbally and in writing.

Must possess ability to have effective interaction with individuals across the technology department, other school departments, external agencies, vendors, and industury consultants.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.

Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
