Public Safety PSAP Smart Hands Technician

Position Overview
The Public Safety PSAP Smart Hands Technician provides onsite and remote technical support for Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). This role is responsible for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of 911 call handling equipment (CHE), workstations, servers, and supporting network infrastructure. The technician acts as the onsite "smart hands" resource for PSAP operations, working under the direction of TEAMSOS's Network Operations Center (NOC) and vendor engineering teams. The position will be dedicated to Leon's County and support five (5) PSAPs in the county. The individual will travel to all locations and perform Smart Hands and maintenance activities as part of the daily responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance visits at PSAPs (hardware inspection, updates, and testing).
- Respond to break/fix service calls for hardware replacement, racking/unracking, cabling, and workstation support.
- Support installation and configuration of NG911 CHE platforms.
- Execute remote engineer instructions for troubleshooting, upgrades, and configuration changes.
- Install and verify connectivity for routers, switches, firewalls, and enclave/cybersecurity devices.
- Document all work performed in service tickets and logs in compliance with SLA requirements.
- Maintain spares inventory and coordinate equipment returns/replacements (RMA).
- Adhere to public safety security and compliance standards (CJIS, CMMC, ITAR).
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Networking, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- Industry certifications preferred (CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or CCNA).
- Hands-on experience with IT hardware installation, structured cabling, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with public safety systems or PSAP operations is desirable.
- Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and runbooks.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Must be able to lift and rack equipment (up to 50 lbs) and travel regionally.
- U.S. citizenship required; must pass background checks for public safety clearance.
