Job Title: Automotive Solution Architect - Legacy Platform Modernization

Location: Portland, Oregon (Remote)

Duration: 12 Months

Role Overview

  • We are seeking a Solution Architect with strong automotive domain expertise and extensive experience in modernizing legacy platforms and migrating workloads to AWS Cloud.
  • The architect will lead the design, planning, and execution of the Legacy Platform modernization program, which involves stabilizing the existing system, upgrading the technology stack, and enabling cloud transformation.
  • The Legacy Platform is a critical backend supporting multiple customer products and state implementations. It currently operates on a legacy stack (C, Linux, Oracle) within a monolithic architecture, presenting scalability and maintainability challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the modernization roadmap across three phases:
  • Phase 1 Stabilization: Resolve issues blocking active/active operations (file conflicts, reconciliation automation, IPC cleanup, nightly job redesign).
  • Phase 2 OS Modernization: Upgrade OS (RHEL 4/5 Alma Linux 9), fix code/library compatibility, set up test cycles, and enable parallel development.
  • Phase 3 Cloud Migration: Guide migration of the platform to AWS (infra setup, nightly job redesign, source code migration).
  • Architect and implement an active-active, multi-site architecture to ensure scalability and resiliency.
  • Provide leadership in porting the Legacy Platform to the latest operating systems.
  • Define and oversee the cloud migration strategy, ensuring security, performance, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to establish CI/CD pipelines, code repository migration (SVN Git), and automated testing frameworks.
  • Guide a team of C/Linux/Cloud specialists to execute modernization activities.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, AWS architects, and product teams to align modernization with business priorities.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in software architecture and solution design, with a focus on legacy modernization.
  • Proven expertise in C, Linux internals, Oracle databases, and integration of monolithic applications.
  • Strong hands-on experience in AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Step Functions, Batch, IAM, Networking, Security).
  • Experience designing active-active, multi-site architectures.
  • Expertise in operating system upgrades, porting, and compiler-level fixes.
  • Experience in automotive domain or similar regulated industries preferred.
  • Strong understanding of modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, Git migration, containerization, monitoring).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
