Your Role:

The Head of Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities Management is accountable for all aspects of engineering, maintenance, and facility management activities within a small manufacturing site of approximately 80 employees. This hands-on leadership role sets the vision for these functions to drive operational efficiency and success, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall objectives. The position fosters innovation initiatives, integrates advanced technologies, and enhances equipment reliability while prioritizing operational safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, you are responsible for budget management, contractor oversight, and vendor relationships, promoting a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement across a close-knit team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership: Lead and actively participate in the engineering, maintenance, and facilities teams, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement. Empower and inspire team members to grow and thrive by aligning individual and organizational development plans with ISCO leadership principles, foundational capabilities, and the functional capabilities defined in the Standard Plant Architecture (SPA) model.
  • Hands-On Management: Engage directly in day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance of all facility systems and equipment.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement practical strategies for facilities management, maintenance, and engineering projects that align with the site's operational goals.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and manage budgets for engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring resource allocation is efficient and cost-effective.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as industry standards, tailored to the scale of the site.
  • Project Management: Oversee engineering and facilities projects, ensuring timely completion within budget constraints. Work with the Site PMO to track progress using the ISCO PPM Tool (Smartsheets).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with all employees across departments to support site-wide objectives and initiatives, fostering a collaborative work environment. Create a highly collaborative environment between the engineering, maintenance and facilities teams.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external contractors and service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery, with a focus on building strong partnerships.
  • Performance Metrics: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of engineering and maintenance activities, ensuring they are relevant to a smaller operation.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Requires 5+ years of engineering, maintenance, and/or facilities management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefer 3+ years of leadership experience preferably in a smaller manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of facility systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations applicable to a small site.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience with capital project delivery.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a smaller team setting.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for facilities management and engineering.
  • Requires strong analytical & mathematical skills needed for analysis of system performance & component selection.
  • Strong aptitude for mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge in motion related instrumentations, for example: servo motors, stepper motors, commutators, encoders (linear, rotary), tachometers, servo amplifiers, stepper amplifiers, motion control boards, feedback sensors, vision cameras, centering cameras, bearings.
  • Adept programmer - Visual Studio .Net (Windows), PLC and motor controllers (IEC 61131-3 languages), C#, SQL, JavaScript, XML, HTML.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics system design including schematics, wiring diagrams and PCB design.
  • Computer literacy - Microsoft office, CMMS, ERP platforms (SAP).
  • Understands mechanical and electrical safety principles and hazardous energy sources.
  • Excellent knowledge of automation systems including liquid handlers, PLC and MicroController based systems.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical methods including least squares regression and t-testing.

Environmental conditions
  • Work environment contains flammable solvents, carcinogens, and corrosives. Requirement to wear all personal equipment as directed by procedure (gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, possibly face shield).

Physical requirements
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

Pay Range for this position: $138,600 - $207,800

Our ranges are derived from several sources, and largely reliant on relevant industry market data. Should we decide to make an offer, we will consider several factors, including but not limited to your location, skills, experience, career level, and other job-related factors.
