Software Developer Senior (Mainframe Operations)

Our work depends on Software Developer Senior (Mainframe Operations) joining our team to support the Online Financial Application system by providing technical support for the following types of activities within Bureau of Fiscal Service.

HOW A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER SENIOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Maintains the application system to include making changes to the system and supporting mainframe software including
  • Broadcom CA IDEAL, COBOL, and JCL procedures as required
  • Provides technical support for the timely and accurate operation of the application system job scheduling and execution, exception processing, error analysis and resolution, on-call support, and development and execution of ad hoc special purpose jobs
  • Maintains the application system technical documentation, end-user instructional documentation {User's Manuals, Operations Guides} and Regulatory Compliance Documentation {System Certification and Accreditation}
  • Provides functional and technical support for online and batch interfaces.

Software Developer Senior will also provide technical support, which includes analysis of business/functional requirements impacting the financial application system, develop and implement system changes, technical requirements development, design, software development, testing, implementation, maintenance, make enhancements and correction of software errors.

Provide technical and functional end-user support for the successful operation of the production system to include:
  • Setting-up and maintaining automated job scheduling procedures using CA ESP for execution of regularly scheduled jobs and providing "manual" job scheduling to accommodate ad-hoc and exception processing requirements;
  • Monitoring the operation of the system and resolve operational anomalies.
  • Updating/maintaining numerous program independent external tables to accommodate changes to programmatic and descriptive parameters.

Technical Responsibilities:
  • Provides FISCAL SERVICE functional and technical support for the new PPS and its interfaces.
  • Provides support for modernization activities, additional interface development, break fixes, migration activities, data conversion and phased cutover activities
  • Works with Client, Software vendors, IT operators, System & application support teams
  • Provides Programming and operational support and testing which is not part of legacy operations, enhancement and support will also be covered under support hours.
  • Maintains detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures and changes.
  • Creates reports on system performance, security incidents and other key metrics.
  • Coordinates with other IT teams to ensure coordinated delivery of IT services.
  • Provides recommendations for system improvements based on analysis and industry best practices.
  • May assist in the development of IT policies and procedures.
  • May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Related field
Required Experience: 10+ years of related experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Full-range of technical IT and functional support and services required to maintain, enhance, and provide operational support
  • for the financial System.
  • COBOL, CA IDEAL, CA-View, CA-ESP, and Prevail
  • Knowledge of zOS
  • Experience in supporting Online & Batch Processing

The likely salary range for this position is $127,500 - $172,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
