Job Details

Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. entry level candidates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.
The Internship Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize and develop emerging talent. Our year-round program places the best students in positions where they will grow technically, professionally, and personally through their experience working closely with their Manager, Mentor, and team. We are dedicated to providing an experience that allows the intern to experience life at Tesla by including them in projects that are critical to their team's success.
Join our team as Mobile App Software Engineer intern, where you'll build user experiences that power the ecosystem of Tesla Solar, Powerwall, and Vehicle products. In this internship, you will work on real features that ship to millions of Tesla customers-your code will directly impact Tesla's mission of sustainable energy. While you're building, you'll be mentored by senior engineers who have shipped major products. And you'll learn from cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams.
The Tesla Energy Mobile App team builds the core app experience for Solar, Powerwall, and Charging. Our goal is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy by building friendly, understandable, and powerful user interfaces that anybody can understand and use.
Some projects we shipped in 2024 & 2025, as examples of what our team (and past interns) have helped build:
Tesla Recharged, a year-in-review feature (like Spotify Wrapped) that tells the story of a homeowner's energy usage, sustainability, and savings.
A Puerto Rico Virtual Power Plant dashboard ( that aggregates realtime data from the Powerwall fleet on the island to tell the story of how Powerwall prevents the island from facing outages almost daily. Virtual Power Plants take distributed resources, like home batteries, and aggregate them to work as one large power plant to increase the sustainability of the grid and reduce grid costs.
Storm Watch automatically charges Powerwall in case of inclement weather which is the leading cause of grid outages, and we recently give owners the ability to manually charge their batteries using udpates to Storm Watch. You can see some of our team talk about Storm Watch here: ;br>Location: Palo Alto, CA
