Job Description: Product Specialist 1 (Batch Operations - 3rd Shift)

Position Type: Contract

Location: Remote (Candidates local to Columbus, OH preferred)

Interview: MS Teams

Shift: 3rd Shift - 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM

Schedule: Must work every Saturday and Sunday + occasional rotational holidays (paid straight time)

Duration: 6 Months

Position Overview

The Client is seeking an experienced Product Specialist 1 to support overnight batch operations for mainframe and distributed systems. This role is responsible for monitoring, managing, and troubleshooting batch workloads, identifying abends, coordinating with technical teams, and ensuring timely execution of production jobs. Candidates must have extensive experience with BMC Control-M/EM, JCL, and mainframe batch operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Batch Operations & Monitoring
  • Monitor and manage mainframe and distributed batch workload during 3rd shift.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve common abends using JCL.
  • Track job failures and coordinate with programmers for issue resolution.
  • Ensure SLAs are met by escalating issues when necessary.
  • Manage batch workloads in Production Control environments for both mainframe and client-server applications.

Tools & Systems Management

  • Efficiently use BMC Control-M and BMC Enterprise Manager (EM) to manage batch jobs.
  • Utilize TSO/ISPF, Nagios, IP Monitor, Tivoli, and related tools to identify and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Document incidents and tasks using ServiceNow.

Communication & Documentation

  • Communicate clearly with support staff during escalations.
  • Write clear and detailed incident summaries and job failure reports.
  • Follow established escalation and notification procedures.

Mandatory Skills

  • 20+ years of experience using BMC Control-M for batch job management.
  • 20+ years of experience using BMC Enterprise Manager.
  • 20+ years of experience managing batch workloads on AJF for mainframe & client-server systems.
  • Expertise in identifying and fixing abends using JCL.
  • Ability to recognize server issues using Nagios, IP Monitor, and Tivoli.
  • Proficiency with TSO/ISPF for analyzing job issues.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow (Incidents & Tasks).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills / Certifications

  • Expert-level experience with BMC Control-M and EM tools.
  • Strong JCL scripting and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of batch job alert/shout messages and severity analysis.
  • Experience with mainframe monitoring tools and job scheduling systems.
