Job Title: Technical Architect Adabas
Location: Quincy, MA
Duration: 6 MonthsJob Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Architect (Adabas/Natural) with solid experience in Natural Adabas (Natural One is highly desirable). The architect will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise systems built on Adabas and Natural technologies. This role involves collaborating with development teams, driving modernization efforts, and contributing to the roadmap for the eventual migration of mainframe applications to modern infrastructure.

This position also supports the mainframe migration/virtualization initiative, aligning with future-state modernization goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with technical teams to conceptualize, design, and architect functional changes to the system.
  • Develop and maintain architectural blueprints for Adabas and Natural One applications, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Implement and configure Adabas and Natural solutions, including code development and database design.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime and disruptions.
  • Optimize systems for performance, data access, and application responsiveness.
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices for Adabas and Natural to team members.
  • Ensure systems comply with security standards and directives.
  • Support database operations, installations, operating systems, and management applications.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors on the mainframe migration project.
  • Administer the Natural development environment.
  • Manage and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, buffer pool management, and monitoring tools (Adabas Performance Monitor).
  • Develop and implement backup, recovery, and database maintenance procedures using Adabas utilities (ADAREP, ADASAV, ADAORD, etc.).
  • Support upgrades, configurations, and management of Software AG products (Adabas, EntireX Communicator, Natural One, Natural Security, Predict, ConnX, Entire Net-Work, etc.).
  • Monitor performance of database startups/shutdowns and restore database backups.
  • Communicate effectively with business users and ensure project documentation aligns with agency/organizational standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong stakeholder management and vendor coordination skills.
  • Experience with database design principles, data modeling, and administration.
  • Hands-on development/coding experience in Natural.
  • Proficiency in business, process, and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with system management tools (console and web-based).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and collaboration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Visio).
  • Experience with Jira Software and knowledge of SDLC methodologies.
  • Knowledge of state health exchange systems (e.g., MA HIX) is a plus.
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Adabas, Natural, and related products.
  • 5+ years of experience in architecture and solution design.
  • Government or healthcare domain experience preferred.
