Job Details

Description
Candidate must be located within a two hour radius of Philadelphia and open to commuting to at least once a week.
Epic's BI Developer role description:
Role description
Business intelligence developers (BIDs) create analytics content for end users and third parties who require Epic data.
Staffing strategy
A single BID can create content for several related smaller applications. Specific assignments will vary depending on your scope and application mix. Work with your Epic representatives to determine the best application grouping for business intelligence developers. Ideal BID candidates are well-versed in end-user workflows, as well as domain-specific operational concepts.
Responsibilities
Configuring and testing Epic-released and Foundation System content for all applications, including:
o Reporting Workbench
o SlicerDicer
o Radar
o Cogito SQL
Creating content to display Epic data from Chronicles, Clarity, and Caboodle
Writing SQL and configuring Radar settings for custom SQL metrics
Modifying existing reports, as necessary
Distributing analytics content to data consumers
Reviewing peer reports for validity
Working with subject matter experts to understand the needs of data consumers
Maintaining the Analytics Catalog and associated metadata records
Testing analytics build in a specified testing environment and volume testing in live environments
Reviewing upgrade documentation related to Cogito features and determining how to implement the changes
BIDs might also be responsible for building and maintaining:
o Cubes
o Extracts
o SlicerDicer custom filters
o Third-party BI tools
o Epic data in Caboodle
Key competencies
A degree in engineering, physics, computer sciences, math, information systems, or statistics
Strong communication skills
Critical thinking and an analytical mind
User-focused design and data visualization skills
Proficiency with SQL and relational database concepts
Proficiency and demonstrated experience with analytics tools
Familiarity with Epic applications and database structure, through training that occurs early in the implementation
Ability to gain an in-depth understanding of the data model through data model classes geared toward content areas
Ability to understand data structures that could benefit the entire data environment
For financial reporting: Prior experience working with an AR system is desirable, but not required
For clinical reporting: Prior experience working with an EMR system is desirable, but not required
Ideally, BIDs design and create analytics solutions based on an in-depth knowledge of operational system usage. This level of knowledge requires a deep understanding of system build, end user workflows, and patterns of use. The best BIDs have both the technical skills required to design and write reports and the operational knowledge to help them understand what report consumers need to see.
Training and certification
Each of the following tracks should be completed by at least one business intelligence developer at your organization, depending on their area of focus (note this means that a total of at least three BIDs should have completed at least one track each):
o Access Data Model Certification
o Clinical Data Model Certification
o Revenue Data Model Certification
Business intelligence developers who don't complete one of the three tracks above should still follow one of the tracks as far as is necessary for them to be able to effectively develop reports
In addition, BIDs who are developing reports for a specific application should study the materials for the data model knowledge track for that application
Training in the fundamentals of report design for the third-party reporting tool you choose is strongly recommended for all BIDs
Some organizations have BIDs shadow end users to gain an understanding of user workflows and how to present the data users need in a meaningful way
All BIDs should be certified in Cogito Fundamentals (this is required to complete data model certification)
One or more BID should be certified in Cogito Tools Administration
One or more BID should complete the Caboodle-Clarity Development class
All BIDs should complete the Badges for Radar SQL Metrics, SlicerDicer Custom Build, and Cogito SQL
