Job Summary
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing electrical design solutions across multiple building and infrastructure projects. This role requires expertise in electrical systems, power distribution, and lighting design, as well as strong project management skills. The Electrical Design Engineer collaborates closely with internal teams, vendors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with codes, safety standards, and project specifications. This position plays a key role in project initiation, guiding design development, providing construction support, and monitoring progress to meet quality, budget, and timeline goals.

This role requires expertise in electrical systems, power distribution, and lighting design, as well as strong project management skills. The Electrical Design Engineer collaborates closely with internal teams, vendors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with codes, safety standards, and project specifications. This position plays a key role in project initiation, guiding design development, providing construction support, and monitoring progress to meet quality, budget, and timeline goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Initiation & Planning
- Review and confirm the electrical scope of work against proposal details.
- Identify missing or required electrical information for project success.
- Conduct internal kickoff meetings and review project schedules with an electrical focus.
- Prepare ASA descriptions and estimated hours for electrical tasks.
- Electrical Design Development
- Develop initial electrical design concepts including power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems.
- Validate design direction with the PE and project team.
- Lead electrical design submissions and milestone reviews (e.g., 50% and final design).
- Review electrical drawing sets and coordinate revisions as needed.
- Provide technical guidance and support to electrical designers and drafters.
- Coordination & Oversight
- Coordinate electrical systems with mechanical, plumbing, and structural disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, local codes, and utility requirements.
- Oversee coordination with vendors and consultants supplying electrical equipment.
- Confirm site visit needs, electrical access requirements, and safety protocols.
- Construction Support & Documentation
- Review electrical submittals, shop drawings, and respond to RFIs.
- Provide construction administration support to ensure design intent is met.
- Support troubleshooting of electrical issues during construction.
- Project Monitoring & Reporting
- Update and monitor electrical project schedules throughout the lifecycle.
- Report electrical design issues, resource needs, or risks to the Director of Operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 5-8 years of experience in electrical design engineering, preferably within MEP consulting.
- Proficiency in electrical design software and project management tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Deltek).
- Strong knowledge of NEC, electrical codes, and industry standards.
- Experience with lighting design, power distribution, and low-voltage systems.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
- Strong technical expertise in electrical engineering systems.
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple electrical design projects under deadlines.
