Job Description

Remote:

This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Warren GM Global Technical Center or Sunnyvale Technical Center, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

About the role:

General Motors is seeking a Content Designer to join our Operating System (OS) Design team for future vehicles. This role is critical in creating clear, intuitive software that defines how people interact with their cars.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Self-starter with strong autonomy. You're comfortable identifying problem areas, tackling them independently, and sharing your findings. You create clarity rather than waiting for it to be provided.
  • Deep understanding of human interface design best practices.
  • Experience naming products and features. You can iterate quickly, form a clear design point of view, and navigate cross-functional feedback.
  • Strong editorial and design sensibility. You love language but believe most software benefits from fewer words. You thrive in environments where you design first and write second.
  • High comfort level with technical complexity. You pick up new terminology quickly and have experience working at scale.
  • Skilled in information architecture and taxonomy. You know how to simplify a complex menu structure.
  • Comfortable presenting to executive leadership. You know how to showcase work effectively and read the room to encourage meaningful feedback.
  • Proven ability to influence content standards. You've guided other writers and helped document standards as teams and practices grow.
  • Kind, collaborative, and easy to work with. You build strong relationships and contribute to a positive team culture.
  • Proficient in Figma.

Additional Job Description

Additional strengths we value:
  • Experience evolving legacy products into their next iteration.
  • Prior work on an operating system.
  • Experience designing content for non-traditional interfaces (e.g., automotive, voice, or wearable devices).

Compensation:
  • The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
  • The salary range for this role is 158,500 - 242,900. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus potential:
  • An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

Benefits:
  • GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs. Benefit options include medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, employee assistance program, GM vehicle discounts and more.
