About the Position
The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Network Engineer assists with the operation and maintenance of the MCDOT ITS network. In this role you will support the ITS Network Administrator, ensuring the reliability and security of MCDOT's critical ITS infrastructure, located both in the field and in the Traffic Management Center. Responsibilities include network monitoring and system maintenance, technical support and troubleshooting, configuration and deployment, technical assistance with Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) Division programs and projects, and documentation of ITS infrastructure equipment and systems, including performance monitoring. You will also collaborate with other IT departments in the county. Having knowledge in Active Directory, LDAP, OKTA, Palo Alto, Cisco, Ubiquiti and server functions is a plus.

We Require
- One year of relevant experience in networking
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or closely related field
- A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
Other Requirements
- Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona Driver's license by the time of hire
We Also Value
- Experience in an IT related field such as Computer or Systems Engineering
- Experience with fiber and Radio/Cellular WAN/LAN networks, VLANs and VPNs
- Experience with directly managing and programming IT network equipment including firewalls, switches, hubs and routers through various application and command-line interfaces and protocols
- Experience with the deployment, operations and maintenance of ITS equipment and systems and their use in both a Traffic Management Center environment and within a traffic signal cabinet. (e.g. ATSMPs, DMSs, Traffic Signal Controllers, CCTVs, and Video Detection)
- Experience with Active Directory, virtualization environments, system patching and backup methods and applications
- Experience with camera feeds and video management systems, including associated video streaming technologies and protocols
- Experience with multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders on local and regional implementation projects
Job Contributions
- Actively monitor and maintain MCDOT ITS network infrastructure, equipment and systems in the datacenter (e.g., firewalls, switches, routers and servers) to ensure reliable communication to MCDOT Traffic Management Center (TMC) Regular troubleshooting, updating and reconfiguration will be needed to maintain a secure and efficient network environment
- Monitor, maintain and deploy ITS equipment and systems in the field (e.g., switches, routers, radios, fiber optics, CCTV Cameras and other field assets (e.g., signalized intersections, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) to ensure reliable operation. This will involve device configuration, programming, testing, evaluation and deployment, as well as regular troubleshooting
- Maintain records and documentation of ITS infrastructure, equipment and systems using various asset management tools (e.g., Cartegraph, OSPInsight and the Road Information Tool)
- Maintain TMC operator workstations and MCDOT ITS data and application servers, providing support for regional data systems used by local agency partners and MCDOT TMC staff
- Provide technical support for TSMO Division programs, projects and proposals
- Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
- Exerting 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
- Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
- Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards and noise and vibration.
