Role: Database Administrator 3 (DBA3)

Location: Columbus, OH (Onsite)

The candidate will be supporting the client s Database Administration team working on tasks for the Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) team.
This role will be instrumental in ensuring the performance, availability, security, and integrity of our critical SQL Server database environments, both on-premises and within Azure Synapse. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in working in complex SQL Server infrastructures, including AlwaysOn availability groups, as well as designing, implementing, and maintaining ETL processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). This individual will also be a key contributor in troubleshooting database issues, optimizing query performance, and ensuring the smooth operation of our data platforms.
Responsibilities:
Administer and monitor our Azure Synapse Analytics environment, including data warehousing and data integration components.
Design, develop, implement, and maintain ETL packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to support data integration needs.
Provide recommendations to business unit on database architecture for new use cases
Take the lead on implementation of a new Data Lake in an Azure Synapse environment
Perform regular database maintenance tasks.
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective performance tuning strategies.
Troubleshoot database-related issues, including connectivity problems, query performance degradation, and data corruption.
Maintain database security policies and procedures, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
Collaborate with application development teams to optimize database design and query performance for new and existing applications.
Document database configurations, processes, and procedures.
Stay current with the latest SQL Server and Azure data platform technologies and best practices.


Experience:

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. Experience with SQL Server High Availability important.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations. Build SSIS packages to integrate data throughout systems.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end. Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes. Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
  • Have experience with decommissioning and migration of older to new systems.

Required Skill:
4 year college degree or equivalent technical study with advanced study preferred.
10+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required
5+ years MS Azure SQL Server Administration experience required
2+ years administering an Azure Synapse Analytics environment
Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
Experience working with Azure Data Lake architecture
Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory
