Your Role:

We are seeking a Principal Development Engineer to join our team at the Bedford, MA campus. This position will serve as a leader within the Single Use and Integrated Systems R&D group at MilliporeSigma's Process Solutions business unit.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing innovative plastic-based products and equipment tailored for pharmaceutical and biotech applications. You will collaborate closely with marketing, quality, operations and product management teams. As a technical leader in product development, you will drive product development from ideation through product and process development to launch, delivering high-quality products that meet market needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead innovative product designs that address market needs, achieving project launch and budget targets, that meet our high product quality standards.
  • Create and validate single-use products by utilizing both existing and innovative manufacturing processes, ensuring effective knowledge transfer to the manufacturing team for successful commercial launches.
  • Collaborate effectively with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Product Management teams.
  • Brainstorm with peers, create prototypes for proof or concept, including virtual prototypes in CAD/SolidWorks and 3D printed prototypes.
  • Apply expertise to ensure new products and processes are designed for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Plan and execute Design of Experiments (DOE), supported by data analysis and statistical software.
  • Make sound decisions based on data and project needs.
  • Create, communicate, and maintain technical project plans, including project budget. Present technical information and experimental progress against goals and cost targets.
  • Write technical reports as well as validation protocols/reports for equipment, tests and manufacturing processes.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, plastics, chemical engineering, or related disciplines, with 15+ years of experience in product design, development, qualification, or production.

OR -
  • Master's/PhD degree in mechanical, plastics, chemical engineering, or related disciplines with 10+ years of experience in product design, development, qualification, or production.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with plastics processing, including heat and RF bonding, ultrasonic bonding, and injection molding.
  • Understanding of film processing techniques (blown, cast, and/or extrusion-lamination).
  • Experience with CAD software for product design.
  • A hands-on approach in a development lab environment.
  • A passion for creativity and problem-solving.
  • Experience with experimental design and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of product and process development activities, including design of experiments (DOE), FMEA, design for manufacturing, test method development, and qualification/validation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
