Location: East Providence, RI
Salary: $24.00 USD Hourly - $25.00 USD Hourly
Description: Our client is currently seeking a Laser Technician to join our advanced optics production team. In this role, you'll be responsible for building, aligning, testing, and troubleshooting high-power fiber laser systems ranging from 100W to 6kW across IR and Green wavelengths. You'll work in a cleanroom environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure precision, quality, and performance in every system.

This job will have the following responsibilities:
  • Assemble and disassemble complex laser systems down to subassembly and component level.
  • Perform precision optical alignment using free-space optics and fringe-mounted components.
  • Conduct functional testing, calibration, and burn-in procedures on optical and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Inspect, clean, and bond high-power optical components including mirrors, beamsplitters, polarizers, waveplates, and crystals.
  • Align laser resonators and frequency conversion crystals.
  • Document procedures, test results, and findings using engineering tools and SharePoint.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, CCD cameras, and multimeters to validate system performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Support fielded systems through testing, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in compliance with 5S and ISO 7 cleanroom standards.
  • Lift and handle equipment up to 40 lbs as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in optics or laser system production.
  • Proficiency in laser alignment and optical system troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with lab tools (Allen wrenches, tweezers, screwdrivers) in cleanroom environments.
  • Experience with high-power laser systems and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (e.g., root cause analysis, SPC).
  • Intermediate math and statistics skills; ability to work with Excel or equivalent tools.
  • Basic engineering knowledge including blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing.
  • Experience with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, microscopes).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to present findings to peers and leadership.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
