Job Title: Sr. Mainframe Developer

Position Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Sr. Mainframe Developer with extensive experience in designing, developing, and optimizing mainframe applications across various industries including Insurance, Banking, and Healthcare. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, IMS DB/DC, and Assembler, with a strong focus on integrating legacy mainframe systems with modern cloud architectures and APIs.

Key Responsibilities:

Mainframe Application Development & Optimization:

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-volume batch programs and real-time online transaction systems using COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
  • Optimize IMS databases, improve transaction processing with CICS, and implement high-availability solutions for mission-critical systems.
  • Develop Assembler (HLASM) routines for performance-critical modules and system-level functionalities.
  • Participate in mainframe-to-cloud modernization projects, integrating legacy systems with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).

Database & Performance Tuning:

  • Design and maintain database structures, including DB2, IMS, and VSAM, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity.
  • Implement SQL query optimization, index tuning, and buffer management for high-volume transaction processing.
  • Perform IMS reorganization, HALDB maintenance, and DB2 schema optimization to support large-scale data flows.

API & Cloud Integration:

  • Integrate legacy mainframe systems with API-driven architectures using REST/SOAP web services, IBM MQ, and API Gateways.
  • Lead the integration of mainframe systems with Java-based APIs and middleware for seamless data exchange with cloud-native applications.
  • Design cloud migration strategies and support data flows between mainframe and cloud platforms like AWS S3, EC2, RDS, and Lambda.

Job Scheduling & Automation:

  • Manage job scheduling using CA-7, Control-M, and SAVRS to ensure smooth execution of batch workflows.
  • Automate data workflows, system diagnostics, and anomaly detection using REXX, Python, and Shell scripts.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Java developers, business analysts, cloud engineers, and QA teams, to deliver end-to-end enterprise solutions.
  • Work with business stakeholders to ensure that mainframe systems meet operational requirements and compliance standards.

Security & Compliance:

  • Implement RACF security, dataset protection, and audit compliance (SOX, PCI, HIPAA) to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Perform regular security audits, data integrity checks, and system vulnerability assessments.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: 8+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development and optimization.
  • Technical Skills:
    • COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS, CICS, VSAM, Assembler (HLASM).
    • Strong expertise in SQL tuning, IMS buffer tuning, CICS performance, and batch processing.
    • Experience with API integration, IBM MQ, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
    • Job scheduling and automation using CA-7, Control-M, REXX, and Python.
  • Database Expertise: Proficiency in IMS DB, DB2, VSAM, and Oracle (legacy migration).
  • Cloud Integration: Experience with cloud migration, AWS RDS, and data sharing across mainframe/cloud platforms.
  • Tools: Proficient with IBM Utilities (IDCAMS, DFSORT, ICETOOL), Jira, and Agile methodologies.
