Infrastructure Administrator Linux

Job Summary:
The Infrastructure Administrator (Linux) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization s Linux-based infrastructure. This position focuses on system performance, security, and reliability across virtualized and cloud environments. The role plays a critical part in ensuring operational stability, automating routine processes, and supporting enterprise-wide IT initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the subject matter expert for Linux administration and configuration.
Administer and optimize RedHat and Oracle Linux systems across VMware and Nutanix environments.
Ensure systems are configured for optimal performance, reliability, and security compliance.
Monitor system health, respond to alerts, and lead incident response and remediation efforts.
Apply patches, updates, and security fixes in coordination with IT security policies.
Build and deploy new systems following standard configuration and security best practices.
Develop and maintain system documentation for compliance and communication purposes.
Participate in disaster recovery testing and maintain backup systems.
Implement automation for monitoring, reporting, and system management through scripting.
Provide on-call support as part of a rotating schedule.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in IT systems administration with strong expertise in Linux (preferably RHEL).
At least 2 years of experience with scripting (Bash, Python, or PowerShell) and enterprise backup systems.

Special Requirements:
Ability to participate in a rotating on-call support schedule.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Hybrid schedule requiring partial on-site presence in the regional Pittsburgh area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Deep technical knowledge of Linux environments (RedHat and Oracle Linux).
Proficiency in virtualization platforms (VMware, Nutanix) and enterprise backup systems.
Experience with security hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs).
Experience with automation tools such as RedHat Satellite, Ansible, or similar.
Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python, PowerShell).
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Additional Desired Characteristics:
Experience supporting systems hosting database technologies.
Familiarity with containers and cloud infrastructure.
Exposure to monitoring and alerting tools.
Ability to work collaboratively across IT and business teams.

Work Environment:
Hybrid position with a mix of remote and on-site work in the regional Pittsburgh area.
Typical office environment with normal noise levels and prolonged computer usage.
May require occasional off-hours or weekend support.
